While driving on Route 2 through Gorham sleet and snow seemed to be equal parts. Soon after the border into Maine it was snow, pulled into the parking lot and there was about four inches of pretty dry POW on the ground! This was going to be a nice outing!
Up the Sunday River Express and down Ecstacy, Lower Uppercut to Sunday punch, POW all the way! Next was Jungle Road, Sunday Punch to Cascades, all the same! Cutting through 4-6″ of snow! Up again except took a left down Uppercut, wasn’t sure at first with the bumps fairly hidden, but it ran great. Each bump was soft and my tails slid out once or twice. Over to White Cap.
First run Shock Wave, a lot of POW in the middle, lean back and go! The wind created many deeper pockets of snow, great turn after great turn! That and there was no one else on the trail, so good I hit it again! That would be it though as White Cap and Jordan Bowl were shut down due to the wind. While riding up the White Cap Quad Tempest looked to have hardly a track, man did it ski great. Followed by Wildfire, Jibe (x2), and back to Tempest. BIG smile on my face.
Back up the SR express to see if Last Tango glade filled in. What a difference from last week! Hardly any thin spots, and I made quite a few fresh tracks as well! Couldn’t get enough and skied it three more times. Legs were feeling it now, knock it down!
Right Stuff was next and wow I wish I hit it earlier! Even though the POW was pushed around a bit, you still just blew through any pile, had to do it again. Top Gun was the same, deeper snow on skiers right. At this time the weather was changing, all morning it was snowing, now it was one and the snow was giving way to sleet. That wasn’t going to stop this outing, Ecstacy, Crossbow, Sunday Punch, good snow still. Jungle Road to T2 to Sunday Punch. SP had great snow on skiers left, hit that run one more time and called it a day. Sleet was now light “R” word.
Great day SR!
