Sun + no wind + a ton of recent snow = a pretty kick ass ski day. I've been neglecting the River this year; it's always been my goto ski area but I'm trying to pick my days there more carefully.

Took the Chondola to the top and made a beeline for Barker via lower Amex. The recent precip was pretty wet and I was concerned the overnight temps would make things too firm but I was wrong. It was obvious right away the snow was just soft enough and I couldn't help but go mach 1 all the way to Barker.

Up the chair, took Jungle Road to Upper Cut which was a tad thin but skied very nicely. Out onto Ecstacy to Cascades, which seemed to have a fresh coat of manmade and ungroomed...skied fantastic. Hit Right Stuff right before they threw a rope in front of it for racing, which they were also doing on Monday Morning and Wildfire. Also hit Top Gun, on which the ungroomed stuff was slightly too crusty for me to stay in control.

Run of the day was Eureka on Oz...piles of soft snow. I couldn't help but do a top to bottom run on iCaramba because it looked so good from the lift. On about my 4th turn from the top my tips slammed hard into a rock and stopped me dead. I acted all nonchalant because I had a lift audience above me and continued down right away. I did another 4 turns and stopped and then just sort of fell down from exhaustion. Very impressive.

I've run on a bit but the whole mountain skied well. Have fun if you go!

Sounds great Edd!

I'll be heading up tomorrow night for the weekend!

Did you duck into any of the trees?

I can't wait to get up there!

I did hit Blind Ambition. The snow was dense but skied nicely. Last Tango is open but I didn't go down it due to the racing on Right Stuff. Sure looked good, though.

On the way to T2 from Upper Sunday Punch I noticed that Locke Line looked open. Ski Patrol was training on it though, dragging sleds down. That's one of my favorite trails and it's tough to catch it on a good day.

Thanks... BA and LT are on my hit list for Saturday...

As are Crossbow and Tightwire (assuming the snow looks good.

Eureka was my ROD on Tuesday as well as snow was piling up. Glad you had fun.

Hope they're not mob'ed on the weekend (Saturday, too cold on Sunday from the look of it).

Any crowd avoidance advice?

Aurora, White Cap, quantum leap triple, and oz are almost never really busy in my experience. White Cap can keep you busy for quite a while. Sunday will be dead except for maybe the Barker and South Ridge area but looks to be cold ass F%$$

Hi! You mean all the double black areas!!! ;-)

Alright, will bite! Hope my knees hold up.

Also hope the wind isn't too bad on those lifts... Can be a bitch riding into the 10+ mph wind as forecasted...

Obession is a very doable cruiser for an intermediate, you can easily link it with other variations like cascade, tempest, jibe. Aurora has some great cruising also. They groom quite a bit

+ 1 Obession is worth a few laps. One of my favorites.
