Sun + no wind + a ton of recent snow = a pretty kick ass ski day. I've been neglecting the River this year; it's always been my goto ski area but I'm trying to pick my days there more carefully.
Took the Chondola to the top and made a beeline for Barker via lower Amex. The recent precip was pretty wet and I was concerned the overnight temps would make things too firm but I was wrong. It was obvious right away the snow was just soft enough and I couldn't help but go mach 1 all the way to Barker.
Up the chair, took Jungle Road to Upper Cut which was a tad thin but skied very nicely. Out onto Ecstacy to Cascades, which seemed to have a fresh coat of manmade and ungroomed...skied fantastic. Hit Right Stuff right before they threw a rope in front of it for racing, which they were also doing on Monday Morning and Wildfire. Also hit Top Gun, on which the ungroomed stuff was slightly too crusty for me to stay in control.
Run of the day was Eureka on Oz...piles of soft snow. I couldn't help but do a top to bottom run on iCaramba because it looked so good from the lift. On about my 4th turn from the top my tips slammed hard into a rock and stopped me dead. I acted all nonchalant because I had a lift audience above me and continued down right away. I did another 4 turns and stopped and then just sort of fell down from exhaustion. Very impressive.
I've run on a bit but the whole mountain skied well. Have fun if you go!
