Went up to Sunday River with the NAC bus. Got in at 9:10; and on the slopes around 9:30. Lower Whitecap looks like it will close in a few days; it looks pretty sad over there; though White Heat skied very nicely. Not much snow in the woods in the White Cap area, but as you get more and more down to Jordan Bowl, it gets better. There were quite a bit of bare spots, and someone told me Sugarloaf is in the same condition currently, minus the lower White Cap. There were quite a bit of bare spots and thin cover areas, and on some trails, you had to dodge them rampantly. Also, South Ridge looks like it only really has maybe 2 weeks left. Thin cover areas were more limited at the Jordan side of the resort. The trails softened up nicely, but it then got colder around 2:30, so they firmed up. Not much grooming was done, and a lot of trails were bumped up. It was the bumpiest I've ever seen the trails at Sunday River.

At this rate, I think one more decent weekend is a slight possibility here, unless we get a snowstorm, even though I certainly enjoyed skiing and still thought the conditions were good. Almost all the trails were open, but I think the trail count will take a big whack soon.

In my mind, northern New England
Skied the South Ridge-North Peak-Spruce-Barker-Locke-White Cap route. Great corn snow on just about every trail. Skied from 1030 to 4. Temps hit the 60s. Great spring skiing day. American Express on Spruce, Monday Mourning and White Heat were the best runs. Mid to late afternoon were the best conditions when the snow started firming up. Last Tango was getting spotty and the woods are close to done. Barker, Locke, White Cap and Spruce were holding up well. IMHO they should hold up well into mid-April.
