I find it interesting that Snowshoe is bragging about natural snow and snowmaking right now when they got almost 3 feet of snow when Sandy came through last year, but didn't open

the whole area also had no electricity. a little tough to spin lifts without power lol

my buddies from western PA went down there and most of the snow blew off the mountain, there wasn't much to ski. Canaan Valley and Timberline (a little farther north) got the goods.

Snowshoe sucks, their terrain is lame, it just happens to be atop a 4500' mountain.

Now wait a minute. If being open to the public counts for anything than SR will be open the same time as Killington as it opens at 8:00 am Sat.

Also, remember that if they end up closing midweek that this doesn't really count as an opening date. Mind you, I don't agree with that at all, but that was the mindset many of the K fan boys had back when Sunday River was opening weeks before K, but on a weekend only schedule. Back then all that mattered was when they were "open for the season" and operating 7 days a week.

I'm going to say this: props to Killington for opening. But props also to Sunday River for opening because they could have not done anything. But they pushed it...and had guys out there with shovels and buckets on Friday moving snow. So for the first weekend: folks had two choices. Season Passholders at both places were thrilled.

Oh yeah I always find these HS threads so funny because he's here typing away and NOT skiing. I might be wrong, but I think that is the case and has been pretty much every year.

Highway star earns a lot of the comments he gets, but I will say he is on the hill a lot.

So when Killington closed midweek in May the following weekend did not count then?

Saturday wasn't really an adventure like last October. I was at SR while Matt went up the Whiteface Auto road. Matt has already posted his TR; I'm working on mine now.

Last October we stay at Canaan Valley due to access issues and heard that Snowshoe wasn't as cool to letting people used their terrain when closed. Although it wasn't an Alpine ski area, our 2nd was spent at White Grass and the vibe of this place was off the wall. I highly recommend it for people with cross-country skis or touring gear.

I think Madpatski has video of skinning up and skiing down in feet of snow

It was posted 2 TRs on my blog, but the maker and owner of the video is MattChuck2.
