Oh that first time to put your ski boots on for the season!
Made it to Sunday River yesterday. Saw several Sugarbush skiers and go to meet Grateful Skier! While my last day was on mushy bumps I found this first day to be quite firm. Definitely needed edges. No rocks. Lots of cover on the top 1/3 of the one open trail. But long line for both re-up loading and down loading. Fortunately by ~1:00 PM they finally dropped the ropes and let us ski to the bottom. Which while full of ebb's and weaves was totally covered and quite skiable. Kind of silly to wait so long to drop the rope though. Lots of poachers went earlier and once they did open it, it was only totally in sun for about a half hour. Really should have opened it earlier. Once the shade got to the slopes things firmed up quickly.
Over all a fine first day. Hats off to Sunday River for making the effort.
Great to be back on skis and see some ski buddies!
