For those who missed last night's ACE Ski and Board meeting, here is a clip of video I took of Sir Michael Bouchard. Mike has resurrected TENNEY Mountain and the results are impressive. I didn't start filming until about 10 minutes into his talk. This was filmed on a cell phone, so you'll need to turn up the volume to hear it clearly. Enjoy, Bill Tarkulich

Mike is the man.

I don't know who told him 40% of the water going uphill for snowmaking will come back down into the pond though. If that's happening somewhere, snowmaking is being mismanaged. There are a number of methods to use nearly every last drop of water left and prevent freezing at the same time.

Since one of Mike's other going concerns is hydrology - the sourcing of water in large scale, that he's a scientist by training and has a boatload of experience, with attention to technical detail, I'd be surprised if he was wrong. He might be talking about a specific topology and geology at a specific area. Wouldn't be hard to get an answer from him.

That is true - it just seemed to me he meant 40% that he sends up is going to come back on the discharge side and he would be looking to recapture that energy using a micro-hydroelectric system.

Since he has no experience on the ski area side, it wouldn't surprise me if he is getting tidbits of info from all over and this was one of them.

He does seem to thoroughly vet who is advising him - that is an impressive list. Tim Pjister does work for us and he is the best.

Wow, he is passionate with a clear vision and a level head on his shoulders. Wish I could have made the meeting last night. I look forward to meeting him this winter. BTW they are due for a facebook update, I very much look forward to the work in progress!!

I have been fortunate enough to work close by and actually went to Tenney three times so far and talked to him. He always takes the time.

Well the video link isn't working. Which I'm sure is a blessing, having watched cell-phone-recorded talks in the past.

But Micheal and the rest of these guys have really poured a ton of energy into getting Tenney open again. It's great to see a local hill coming out of NELSAP purgatory. It's probably the only ski area I'm really excited to check out this season. Hopefully the weather turns around for their (re)opening season.

(BTW: the "sir" means that he's part of the Knights of Malta, not that he was knighted in some of the more commonplace ways. No judgement, just mentioning. You can learn about them on their own).
