First Gonzalez and now Carl Crawford

Funny, just 2 weeks ago Boston fans were screaming for John Henry's head. First he spends $400 million on a soccer team in England, then he refused to match a short money deal for Victor Martinez.

Then in 5 days he goes out and spends close to 300 million on two players.

Shore up the bullpen and get this season started!

In other news: The Yankees have offered Cliff Lee part ownership and a statue in Monument Park!

Hitting should be pretty good, but bullpen could be an issue if they don't get some things done.

Who cares about the Yankees? This is a Red Sox thread ;-)

Expanded playoffs can't get here soon enough. It's tough being a fan of the 6th-8th best team in baseball and still being 4th in the division.

haven't read much about expanded playoffs.

Hopefully they cut games in the regular season. I just can't see baseball being played later in the year than it already is.

OK - we're officially a member of the Evil Empire, but what the hell. This team could win 110 games next year.

Ellsbury - CF
Pedroia - 2B
Crawford - LF
Gonzalez - 1B
Youkilis - 3B
Ortiz - DH
Drew - RF
Scutaro - SS
Saltalamacchia - C

Lester, Beckett, Buchholz, Lackey and Matsuzaka - SP

Gonna be hard for the Yanks to beat this team.

Liking the speed at the front end of this revamped lineup! Ellsbury, Crawford and Pedroia setting the table for Youkalis, Gonzo and Papi, sweet! If they all stay healthy their going to score a shit ton of runs. Might not need a killer bullpen but some tweaks are needed.

Sign Cliff Lee and trade DiceK to a west coast team for a bag of used balls.

lineup will be vulnerable to good left-handed pitching...yoooook and dusty coming off injuries that could linger for the rest of their careers, and a rotation of lester, buckhols and pray for rain...meh

jealous much. You wish the Yankees signed Crawford. Gonzo is no loss for you all as you have Texiera. You'll probably get Lee though.

Sources say the Sox are close to signing Russel Martin to catch. I'm just hoping for some bullpen help and I wouldn't be upset to see Pap traded and Bard moved to the closer roll.

No! No, you bastards! Stay away! We need a backup plan if Arencibia doesn't pan out.

hell of an offseason so far for the sawx, but...........crawford is not much of an upgrade over what the Yanks already have in terms of player value, especially when you consider the cost...at least that's what my stat nerd buddies tell me...and....everyone forgets this, but danny bard blew 7 games himself last year

IFFFFFF yoooook and dusty come back, and beckett and lackey pitch better, well then...

Fair enough

Just keep in mind that despite having one of the worst bullpens, Elsbury and Cameron being lost for the season, Youk and Petey out for most of it, Victor Martinez missing significant time, having a triple A outfield and Beckett/Lackey having off years.........

.......the Sox still won 89 games and were 9-9 against the Yankees.

we'll see what happens, but I were Cashman, I'd be throwing stupid money at Cliff Lee and trying to get Petite back as well....

I think those numbers have more to do with facing Lester and Co. then the ballpark itself.

Correct - I'll bet if you check all the big guns on the Sox, Yankees and Rays, they all have low numbers against each other. Then check A-Rod's lifetime batting average against Kansas City or Cleveland and it's probably .800...........

ok, let me walk into the fox's lair.... the Crawford signing is cool for a few years but all that money for a corner outfielder who has not hit more than 19 home runs in a season and depends on his legs for all his gusto is a bad signing on the back end... too much for all the talent he does have. you got starting pitching in buck and lester but i think Beckett (6 /6..5.78) is a shell of his former self...Matsuzaka scares nobody(9/6..4.69..) Lackey(14/11)... we'll see, Papelbon.. i don't know what to think about...1.27whip (ok)) and a 3.90 ERA..well...? it seems they don't like him if they gave Mariano an offer. Gonzalez is a good signing but doesn't that basically replace Victor Martinez numbers? overall i think you guys are much better..as long as Pedoria comes back strong and Ellsbury is healthy... and for the record i think the yanks at this point should not sign Lee... too much money and years for a guy who has had a bad back...but i guess if they get him it will be ok for a few years.. not my f--king money. i would rather take a chance on Greinke..head case and all. ok kill me now, i won't take it out on the friends i have in Wellfleet every summer....not.

total Red Sox homer here. Think we WAY overpaid for Crawford. Think Werth was way overpaid as welll.

but it's not my money

and I think it's great timing for the Sox to make a big splash in Free Agency and grab the best guys available.

Arod is 35, Jeter is 38, Posada is 39, Rivera is 41.

Boston has a solid in their prime core of Lester, Buckholz, Gonzalez, Crawford, Pedroia, Youk. Team is stacked to stay competitive fore many years...........
