Lots of choices here but i have to go with walter schoenict (i KNOW i butchered that name)

credited with inventing snowmaking as we know it, got two areas up and going and both still around Snow and Mohawk.

cases could certainly be made for Preston Smith and the Slutzkys.

i agree with that...

Slutsky brothers were instrumental in the snowmaking thing...
Orville was going on about it at a Civic Dinner last month... He's still proud of his accomplishments...

I read his Wikipedia page since I don't know much about the guy... where does the Eastern part come in? Seems like he was all over.

I thought this thread was going to be about skiers and was having a hard time thinking of specific prolific individual ones - first ski descents and such. I guess it's always been more of a group effort with skiing - with clubs and all.

I would include mount snow for having the first terrain park in the east. I remember getting my ticket pulled for building little jumps on my local hill growing up. Then all of a sudden Mount Snow builds a terrain park and the rest is history.

Dick Durrance -- Eastern connection is that he was an\ DARTMOUTH skier who went on to may accolades in the early development of the sport

Durrance world famous was on several national teams and won several early races , also an Olympian and executve with Aspen's development
