Date(s) Hiked: 10/14/06

Trails(s) Hiked: Mount Osceola Tr

Total Distance: 8.4 RT

Difficulty: Moderate to Osceola, more difficult to E Osceola

Conditions: Icy above 3700'

Special Required Equipment: Typical Fall arsenal.

Trip Report:

This was Hike #1 of a 3 hike "marathon" Saturday.

Started this bad boy at 4:33 in the morning. It was VERY easy getting to Osceola, but East Osceola is a bit tougher. Stealthy ice clung to rocks. Views were great.

Definately the easiest hike I've done in the Whites. Tripoli rd closes soon so if you want to do it the way I did do it soon!

For what it's worth, I grabbed both peaks last winter from the Kanc side, and didn't find it to be at all as difficult a route as its reputation.

Glad the sun was up by the time you returned to the ledges; it'd be a shame to miss that view for the darkness (4:30am start? Yikes!)
