I'm trying to decide whether to head east and fight the crowds at Jiminy or head south and hit Belleayre.

Any of the weather buffs on here think the storm could possibly turn to ice over the Catskills? I've seen it before, but this storm looks pretty official.

ALSO:

Belleayre Cup Race tomorrow, anyone know which trails this races uses?

No ice in Catskills tomorrow! Only down near NYC. Why dont you come to Hunter? And dont tell me its more crowded than Jiminy!

Hunter may not be a bad idea. I will have to persuade my girlfriend to go to a different mountain. One of those types that gets nervous on a new mountain. I agree, I think Jiminy is definitely busier on the weekends.

I am dying to go to Magic, but I'm afraid if I took her there that she'd never go skiing again. I reserve those trips with friends, however they seem to have fallen off the face of the planet this season..

Jiminy was waaaay crowded last weekend!

And the conditions were honestly not as good as I expected. A fun day of skiing, yes.. but I would suggest you go to Vermont

It was MLK weekend on a year when there has been basically no snow. You are surprised when a mountain is busy on the traditional busiest weekend of the year?

Actually I had no idea it was MLK weekend... I don't get time off work for that.. I go skiing every weekend once or twice anyway so it just seemed unusually crowded to me

I guess that explains it.

Except 2 weeks before I went there and it was almost just as crowded. I'm pretty sure that place is always crowded on weekends.

Jiminy is always crowded. I think a lot of kids call this mountain home, as local schools use Jiminy for their ski club programs. I'm heading to Vermont in early February for a week, so I'm budget skiing til then. The smaller vehicle is out of the picture as of now, so I'll need to use the truck, not the best gas mileage.. actually, it's pretty horrible. I'll be happy anywhere that gets snow. I've had no fresh days this year.

Anyone hit Platty today? I see they dropped almost all their ropes.

Debating whether to wake up early and leave Lake Placid (conditions ok, not great) for plattekill or not.

But 2 weeks before MLK weekend is New Years weekend. I guess that does explain it!
