Greetings Drifters!

It is prime goggle tan time here at Killington! As we head down the final stretch of the 2007-08 ski and snowboard season, now is the time to harvest some soft corn snow as you soak up the sun on Superstar!

In this Drift …

• Sunshine Daydream and Pond Skimming this weekend
• Spring Lifts, Terrain at Killington
• Save the Date!
• Congratulations to local bumpers
• Golf, Slide and Ride!

Sunshine Daydream and Pond Skimming!

Two of Killington’s best spring events are rolled into one exciting weekend of music and wackiness. The Sunshine Daydream Festival on Saturday features Dead music all day long, including Playin’ Dead as the headliner. In addition to bands playing Grateful Dead covers all day, there will be a mini shakedown, drum circles and tie-dying. Festivities will be held at the K-1 Lodge from 11a.m. until 5 p.m. The event is free, and t-shirts will be available to purchase for tie-dying.
On Sunday it’s time to bust out your clown wigs, witches costumes, knee-long surf shorts, and Mr. Zogg’s Sex Wax for Killington’s Annual Pond Skimming Contest. Taking place in front of the K-1 Lodge, competitors will attempt to skim across Killington’s man-made pond as spectators play a crucial role in determining the winners in a variety of categories including best overall skim, biggest splash and best costume. Pond Skimming kicks off at straight up noon!

Spring Lifts, Terrain at Killington

This weekend at Killington we’re projecting more than 80 trails served by 4 lifts, including the K-1 Gondola and the Superstar Express. Beginning Monday, April 14 through closing day April 20, lift tickets are reduced to $49 for adults, $44 for Young Adults/Seniors; and $42 for Juniors/Senior Plus. The Daily Snow Report provides current ticket prices, lift and terrain offerings through closing day April 20.

Save the Date!

The Seventh Annual Killington Wine Festival will take place July 17-20, 2008. This year’s event will feature over 250 wines at Saturday’s Grand Tasting at The Peak. The weekend will also include amazing wine tasting dinners at area restaurants, an exclusive Estate Tasting, and a Bubbly Brunch on Sunday morning. Mark your calendar now, and check for more info at www.killingtonchamber.com.

Congratulations to Local Bumpers!

Killington Mountain School graduate Mike Morse laid down two super fast and technical runs to take home the gold medal at U.S. Freestyle Championships held at Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah. Morse, originally from Duxbury, MA considers Killington his hometown mountain and after he graduated from KMS in 1999, he went straight to the U.S. Ski Team.
Twelve KMS freestyle athletes made the trek to Park City to compete, including KMS senior, Jillian Kazley, who placed 4th in the Half Pipe competition behind X-Games and U.S. Team athletes. In addition, KMS junior Becca Goldstein surprised everyone to end the season with a 12th place finish in Moguls.

Golf, Slide and Ride!

As the ski season winds down, we’re looking forward to opening day of Killington’s 6,168-yard Geoffrey Cornish designed 18-hole championship course, tentatively set for Friday, May 9. Also, the Pico Mountain Adventure Center opens for the season on Friday, June 27, including the Alpine Slide and the new Pico Power Jump! Killington’s Kona “Groove Approved” Mountain Bike Park and the K-1 Gondola also open June 27.

In the meantime, enjoy the spring corn snow and working on your goggle tan!!

Been watching the forecast all week and while it did trend wet in the last few days it looks like sugarloaf and saddleback will be the most white places in new england this weekend.

Going to day trip the loaf on saturday. If anybody is interested in a ride share from southern new hampshire to the loaf on saturday let me know. Ill be leaving portsmouth around 5:30 AM.

Looking like Mt. Snow for me, probably Saturday. If any of you see a fat guy with a Chow Mein sticker on his helmet, wave. I was up there last Thursday and it was in pretty good shape, with lots of breathing room base-wise.

Will likely be @ Okemo Thursday. I'll report back on how it was.

I'll be the one on Ego Alley with red pants, and a helmet with Cornell/Ithaca/NJ Devils/Buckeye (they look like marijuana leafs) stickers on it.

The NWS say 1-3" for saturday and another 1-3" for saturday night at elevation. I am waiting out this weekend for the sunshine and warmth of next week.

Enjoy

Waiting the weekend out also. Most likely hit Mt. Snow Wednesday or Thursday. Calling for a couple nice days like we just had in the 60's!
