Tips to stop rolling down the windows

Common problem due to taking off off-balance is the so-called "rolling down the windows," or winding arms frantically in a desperate attempt to find balance. One good way to solve this is throw in a grab.

That way you'll only be rolling down one window.

Also, something I do want to try is a modified Daffy-Rolling down the window combo. Hold pole in outstretched left hand, as if holding the neck of a guitar. Daffy and roll down the window with right hand.

I'll name it the "Van Halen."

HA! I did that Sunday morning.... Hit kicker #1....strong gust of wind hit on my approach and slowed me down. I semi flatlanded...missed the downside pitch on the backside a bit, but was able to ride it out. So I'm now inline for kicker #2 and decide to just straight line...no scrubbing off speed. Well no wind on this one so I hit this a bit faster than I anticipated. This put me a bit higher in the air...and the arms started going. It wasn't a pretty jump. However, my wife was the only one around and she thought it was cool. LOL!

I agree on the grabs 100%. It's amazing what a slight reach back to the tail of your ski can do for your stability. For really big air (that I'm actually ready for) I find bringing both legs up slightly (knees towards your chest) and dropping your hands down so they're almost even with the edges of your skis helps. It's not the coolest looking air...but I'm not entering any competions any time soon...and it keeps my arms from flailing around.

Glenn, which park do you hit? And in the morning, how empty is it?

We usually start off on Mineshaft. I was actually getting above the lip on the mini pipe when doing my semi vertical hop turns. Nothing that'll impress many...but at 33 yrs old, I was kinda proud. Then it was over to Prospector and Lower Titanium. The "bigger" (for me at least) kickers where on Lower Titanium....after the trail cuts to the skier's right off Nitro.

It wasn't bad at all Sunday AM before 9. There were a few smaller packs of kids...and a few families. Saturday it was a bit nutty...I think we were there at 10ish? I just kinda pointed my skis where I wanted to go and hoped no one made a sudden change in direction.

The 3rd roller on the bottom of Mineshaft almost had me inventing some new arm flalling not so high off the groun aerial maneuver yesterday AM  Ended up a bit more in the backseat do to a bad pre jump off roller #2  than I wanted to and then a nice gust of wind tried to factor into the equation as well  Fortunately for me (or unfortunate for random's folks viewing pleasure  ) it was a Monday AM about 9:30 and there wasn't anyone around to watch me acting quite herb-ish ;)

We need a "Over 30...not so big air" gathering at the terrain park some morning. Probably early in the AM...before the kids that know what the hell they're doing show up. HA!

I'm thinking a better location/time would be under the cover of darkness some evening at Vcunning's place! Then at least we's be within walking distance of his Beertender!

Okay, but we have to wait 6 days for me to be officially age eligible.

...I've actually been thinking that Mt. Snow should run a camp/group lessons type deal for anyone 30+ who wants to get more adept in the park. I'd sign up for that for sure, esp. if they could do it in a park that wasn't under the lift...

Holy crap...did you read my mind? I told my wife on Sunday that I'd like to take a lesson to get a bit better in the park. Then wondered if they even offered something like that to anyone over 16. Maybe that's something to inquire about over on the passholder's site.

Jeff,
Yeah, I totally agree! We may be able to employee the kids too. They could be the refillers!

Glenn, I'm sure that my daughter will have no problems encouraging me to have another beer! I'll just save a few extra bottlecaps to "bribe" her with! :)

She'll probably cook you some eggs the next morning and replace your OJ with something that has a bit more "hops" in it! She's hillarious!

Park lessons are even a problem for kids at Mt. Snow...I looked into a lesson for my 9 year old and was told it would have to be a 2 hour private to the tune of close to $200 dollars. That's pretty steep for a single lesson and I'm not able to put him in Devo anymore due to my relocation. I think I'll post on the passholders site and see if mgmt might consider implementing a group park lesson.

Plan B is to round up a few college age park rat skiers (21+) and pay them in PBR.......

I'm really surprised you couldn't get something for your 9 year old Euler. I know they have a freestyle team and all...I thought they'd have some sort of lessons for over there.

I do know a kid on the freestyle comp team so my plan B is to pay him to do it...it just seemed like it might be more prudent to have the lesson given by an instructor given the chance for injury inherent in skiing in the park. I'd hate to hire my friend's 15 yr old kid to work with my son in the park and have my son wind up breaking a leg...it would be an awkward situation.

Never mind, carry on....

That's a good point. That could make for an odd situation.
