Date(s) Skied: January 10, 2011
Resort or Ski Area: Stowe
Conditions: Powder
Trip Report:
We lucked out big time this week with a round of upslope snow in Northern Vermont salvaging a storm that mostly treated the southern parts of New England to a fresh snowfall. Mount Mansfield officially only recorded 5.5 inches of snow, but our measurements and calculations indicated far deeper totals.
Based on the numerics alone, we came up with a formula to relate the reported snowfall to our observations... it works like this: 5.5*pi/2*e*phi inches~.96 meters where phi is the golden ratio ~ 1.6. We weren't remotely close to a proof however.
Anyway, if you want to read some more about our empirical observations, check out the Full TR on FIS... what a great day. Hope you all had a chance to snag some powder. If you didn't there's more coming soon! Git sum!!
