Date(s) Skied: Saturday 3-18

Resort or Ski Area: Tuckerman Raivne (Sherburne Trail)

Conditions: Wind blown pow, hardpack, soilid ice

Trip Report: Hike up to Hojos yesterday to check things out. Temps hovering around 5f.. Bright sunshine.. Hiking trail was REALLY icey in spots so we used crapmons on the hike up. Most surfaces above Hojos were scoured and some big pockets of potentially unstable wind loaded snow hanging around kept us from going higher then Hojos.. Saw some peope scraping down the Chute but it didn't look fun at all..
Rode Sherburn trail down - skiable all the way to the parking lot - a little sketchy near the bottom.. They've run a cat up the bottom part.

Great day for a hike and slide!

Thanks for report. When do you think I should hike it so i can still ski down.

Sherby is gettting really thin in spots.. I'd say without any new natural snow and warm weather - it's down to a few days...

dmc, just to clarify, would you say it is down to a few days top to bottom on the sherbie or is the entire trail really that thin? they can start cutting the trail up into thirds and down hiking on the TRT if enough snow remains up top. just blows my mind how little snow is left this early in the season.

Probably 2/3rds after next warm period..

IMO, most years the Sherburne only lasts T2B until the end of March-early April anyway.
It doesnt sound like we are too far off that schedule this year. BUT, I think the whole trail is going to go out sooner rather than just the bottom half blowing out mid april. I think the whole thing will be toast in a few weeks or less without a some serious help from Mo' Nat. Two rainstorms with some juice could make the Fat Lady sing her last song for the Sherby.

dmc, was there avy debris on the floor of the ravine, from a recent slide maybe? I was at Wildcat on Saturday and from across the notch, it certainly looked like it. Could've just been ski tracks, but it appeared to be all towards the floor of the ravine. Everything else looked nice and smooth.

Bottom of the bowl definately has debris.. You probably also saw the nice crown from a recent slide under the headwall from WC too...

Hey while you were looking at us - we were looking at you!

had a hard time seeing a crown, but I would guess, based on the debris I thought I saw, it would be right under Ice Fall.

At least we had a nice clear day, even if the skiing wasn't terribly good. Wildcat was in pretty decent shape, all things considered, but I needed mew edges before skiing that day. My edges were fairly useless by the end. Needless to say they're in the shop now.

It was good to check in with Seth..
And the Sherby is always old school fun!

Plus I have about 50 days out at only Hunter - so I needed a break... :)
