How long (timewise and distancewise) is it to Tux from the trailhead?

It's about 2.5 miles from Pinkham Notch to HoJo's and that's hike-able in about 1.5 to 2 hours (though it takes me slightly longer than that because I am a hobbit and have short legs and have to rest along the way). From there, it's another 45 minutes to an hour into the Bowl itself. I think it's less than a mile but it's a steep "rock staircase" and some scrambling a bit (if I remember right). Good luck and have fun!

Hate to say this, but is there a rain plan because the MW Observatory is calling for r%^n?

While there is never a sure bet, looks like it is only a chance of rain and not a high percentage for Saturday. NOAA has removed their chance of showers from the five day forecast which previously had a 20-30% change. Saturday looks like it should be decent, overall. Get there early and bring a rain jacket just in case.

I'll let Andy do the reporting on this junket but I was up there with him on Friday. All I can say is that he was carrying quite a tower on his back and I hope that he's got enough strength (and a good sense of balance) to ski the Sherburne (and then hike out) with all that.

Quick beta: Tuckerman trail is skinnable about a mile up. Good corn snow in the Bowl. Left Gully was nicely bumped up but Hillman's Highway was well covered and looks the sweetest. Sherburne is skiable up to halfway then it's a walk-out. Snow covered portions of the Sherbie look like they're going fast and the ranger at HoJo's said that they may close it after the weekend.
