Tuning Equipment Questions

When I worked in a shop I used a weld gun to fill my bases with clear p-tex. I know there is some trick when using a candle that keeps the ash out of the base fill. Anyone know it? Does anyone know about a p-tex weld gun and where one might find one for sale? Is there a trick to solidly placing a Cap Ski in a Toko vice? How can I optain a shaped ski vice?

good question....for get the p-tex gun they su*k.
the best way is to clean out the gouge and get your hands on a berns-o-matic torch...using a mach or a lighter only carbons up the p-tex.
light the torch.
Hold the p-tex close to the flame
let it drip or melt into the damaged area. take a metal scraper and press the newly p-texed spot into the base.....let it cool and knock it down with a razor blade ....hold it by the sides and move it back and forth rapidly untill flush with the base....redo if there is and low spots .
KUU Sport make some of the best p=tex that i have ever used it is flat (not round like others). it melts into the damaged area and is less likely to Carbon up on you.
( i worked for swix in europe for four years tuning europa cup racers skis).

I'm not looking for a discussion on this, but the gun I used worked fine for me the year I managed the shop at the base of Mad River. It was not a good snow year and I had a lot of work with our rentals, ect. I never had a return or compaint about my base fills.

. Do you mean Benzo-matic? I do have one and plan on using it no matter your response. What you are stating is that direct radiational heat and not combustion will melt the p-tex without ash. That makes perfect sense and conforms to Farraday and Newton.

What does KUU stand for? Where can I buy the p-tex?

Gee, I thought that if the skiis on the world cup circuit suffered base damage, the competitors insisted on a new pair.

Thx

Thanks. I don't know if I will ever use the info, though. Buying mailorder or internet order from Canada is a hassle. I like their product selection, though. I looked through their dealer list, but couldn't find one that I thought was in Quebec.
