According to some olympic athletes I've heard from (fencers), all of the US athletes were issued masks by he USOC to wear if they so choose. Erinn Smart was quoted in one NY Times article that she didn't want to be the first one wearing one since fencing is an indoor sport. I wonder if she'll wear one now that the dam has been breached (so to speak).

They should wear them, place is aweful. I have an Asain gal at work, she wears one when she has a cold. The first time I walked by her cube, I could not help from laughing. When I got back to my office I had to email someone and ask wtf she had that on for and they told me about the masks in Asia.

The US flag bearer at tonite's opening ceremony is a Sudanese refugee that became a US citizen. I love creative symbolism and subverting Chinese attempts to shut down dissent.
