New Hampshire is dark blue from everyone going over the boarder for cheaper beer.

ain't that the truth. I'm surprised they don't have hotels attached to the ginormous liquor stores on the highways. Fine by me if it keeps the income taxes away. Wish there were more of them to bring the property taxes down.

After they raise the "Sin Taxes" and raise the sales tax down here you guys will be swimming in money up there.

sin taxes are going up here too. Cigarettes were about $4.50 when I moved here a year ago, now over $6 where VT, MA and ME have prices around $7. If it were up to Lynch, we'd have a sales tax too

How far away from NH are you? Is the extra drive worth it?

It's 33 miles to the West Lebanon off ramp in New Hampshire. It's 15 miles to Route 7 in RutVega$ and another two by the time I get to a store. It's not worth it to buy a 6-pack but if I need to hit stores that don't exist in Rutland like BJ's Wholesale (Long Trail Ale is $20.00/case with no bottle deposit), the NH State Liquor Store, and buy some things that would have sales tax in Vermont, it's worth it even at $0.55 per mile. You'd never dream of buying something expensive like consumer electronics or a home appliance in Vermont.

An oil change at the VW dealer is also way different pricing. The VW/Audi dealer in Rutland won't even reveal their prices. Even for something simple like an oil change that they should know off the top of their head, they hemmed & hawed and finally said "$70-something plus tax". They lost my business for life unless it's warranty work where I'm not paying. Service happens in New Hampshire, not Vermont.

Besides, it's 11 miles to the Long Trail Brewery. From there, it's just about equidistant so if I'm wandering down to the Long Trail, going to West Lebanon is only a few more miles than going to Rutland.

.....and look at the difference between White River Junction, VT and West Lebanon, NH. Opposite side of the river, but worlds apart in terms of where the business is. Granted, Hanover/Dartmouth has an effect on West Lebanon as well, but if I were a business owner there's no way I'd locate in White River unless the rent was FAR cheaper.

I guess I could have used a different term...doesn't really matter, I'm just trying to drum up some activity on the site.

aaah, ok.

well, i'm always surprised that the largest concentration of fatties is in the south....i mean, i usually associate fried fatty foods with cold temps, and, considering how hot and muggy a place like mississippi is, i don't know how those folk can eat so much of the bad (but, good tasting) stuff.

Pretty strong correlation between income and waistline. Lot of poverty down south......also a lot of waffle houses.
