"The websites for both resorts say a single-day lift ticket at the ticket window is $102 :-o through Dec. 25. That rises to $108  from Dec. 26-Dec. 31 before falling back to $102 for the first two weeks of January.

The Aspen Times reports that Aspen Skiing Co.'s peak season single-day lift ticket price is $99 at the window.
Customers who buy online in advance can get discounts, especially for multi-day tickets."

"Breckenridge will charge a peak window rate of $104 during the holidays, while Keystone will charge $99. Both ski areas are owned by Vail Resorts.

I wonder how long before Stowe breaches the $100 mark.

Stowe was $5 under Vail for several years. In 08-09 Vail went ahead to a $10 differential, while Stowe stayed steady for the past three years while jiggering with its midweek pricing. The price differential is now $19. I expect payback time will be next year, as we come out of the recession and the new Stowe-plex is finished. Next year is my bet.

^ But, aren't we out of the recession? Just to engage in some wild speculation: my guess is that the AIG bailout in 2008 affected ticket prices at Stowe. This seems to correspond with your timeline. It would have been bad PR to raise ticket prices while AIG was being resuscitated. Of course, bad PR did not stop AIG from paying out bonuses in '09. Perhaps, Stowe's ticket prices will begin rising if and when the area is sold to a new owner.

The big difference is that Vail Resorts has an outstanding season pass product. They have figured out that they maximize profit by bilking rich vacation skiers and getting more frequent skiers to buy relatively inexpensive season passes.

maybe i'm not looking in the right place, but this says an adult season pass for Vail Resorts in $1949.00.

http://www.vail.com/plan-your-trip/season-passes/season-passes-explorer.aspx

If you had bought earlier in the season, the prices were:

$679 for the "Epic Pass": Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, Heavenly, Arapahoe Basin, Northstar-at-Tahoe and Sierra-at-Tahoe!

$459 for the "Summit Pass": Breck, Keystone, and A Basin

$379 for Heavenly/Northstar/Tahoe
