Very sad when someone with so much promise does something stupid that might end his career and/or his life. I did not see a thread regarding this incident but if one is already present, Greg can delete this one.

PARK CITY, Utah — U.S. Alpine skier Cody Marshall has a head injury after falling about 20 feet while sliding from an escalator railing.

Police say the 26-year-old was out with teammates when he fell off the escalator rail around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in a mini-mall on Park City's Main Street. He was taken by ambulance to University Hospital in Salt Lake City, where he was listed in critical condition Thursday afternoon.

Park City Police Capt. Phil Kirk says Marshall apparently was sliding down the railing when he fell backward. Kirk says the escalator was out of order and chained off.

Marshall, from Pittsfield, Vt., finished third in the slalom at the U.S. Alpine Championships this spring.

like I said on KZone, kid made a dumb mistake but I'm really hoping he pulls through. He doesn't deserve to pay dearly for his mistake, hopefully just lesson learned.

I assumed this was one of those, skiing down the escalator things at first.

Hope he's alright. Dumb mistake, but something we all might have done when we were younger.

Agreed. I could see myself doing it a few years back.

Funny thing is, escalators are something we live with and use daily, and never give a second thought as to how dangerous they really are.

Maybe we should al start wearing helmets on escalators. Those things are dangerous.

The next time I'm in DC...I'm skiing down the escalater into the metro..should I use fat skis or race skis??? I'm guessing the kid will be a vegetable at best..If you are going to slide down an escalator railing..at least be good at it..

Also, the government should provide an incentive for people to upgrade their skis to a more escalator friendly pair.

It must have seemed like a cool idea at the time .. "Hey watch this" . That's why a little fear is healthy. It's suppose to keep you alive. A speedy recovery young man.

And yet again you take another shot at this poor kid. On K-Zone, he got hurt do to alcohol and drugs. On A-Zone, he got hurt because he's stupid. Unreal.

Was it smart for him to do this?

Of course it wasn't Dork. I know that and you know that, but you, like myself, know better than to harp on the negative in a situation like this. The kid is fighting for his a life. It's a kid we all know. We've all skied with him. We've all skied with his family.

Why it may have happened at this point is moot. The kid made a mistake. We've all done it. If it was any of my kids or either of yours, the last thing either one of us would want to read on a message board is about drugs, alcohol, or stupidity.

I know it's in your best interest to defend Ty, but tell her that enough is enough. There is a 20 year old baby fighting for his life. Why it happened means nothing at this point. Maybe Ty should say a prayer for him as opposed to finding fault in him.

no doubt she's pulling for him to make it. Actually based on the blog it sounds like he's gonna pull through. She wishes no harm on anyone, I think you know that.

I'm really not familiar with any of the family, unfortunately. Maybe I've seen them around but I wouldn't know who they were.

I've already showed this to Iceman in hopes that he learns from it when he gets to that I'm indestructible" age, which is coming up for him very soon. He prolly won't though, as every young man has to make some mistakes of his own.

I know she wishes no harm on anyone. I never said she did. It's her straight and narrow train of thought that brings out certain things she says, but I guess you know that already.

BTW, for the amount of time you spend in Ktown, you def know this family. We all do. They are very well known and liked.

I meant no ill will to Ty, but blame is the last thing someone should be spewing in a tragic situation like this. That's all I'm saying.

Also, your Mets suck. Carry on............
