Trip Report:

Good night at Wa tonight. Early spring skiing in January... usually not a great thing but there's so much snow and the warm up will be short lived, it's OK to enjoy these few nice days. All of the major trails are very well covered right now... an occasional bare spot here and there, but nothing detramental to the trails.

Balance Rock / Conifer: Skied it at 4 when I arrived... Roper's Road is done for now. Balance Rock is very thin too and I don't see it making it all week if it rains a lot. Conifer was excellent from the road with nice soft potatoes on the right. Lower Balance is also done.

10th: Spent the better part of the evening hitting the bumps and then going for some air on the steep on Salamander which had a bit of a lip tonight. The bumps don't have any rhythm to them at all... it's just lines of 4 so there's 2 quick bumps, a big space, rinse and repeat. Theres some better lines on the right side but the troughs over there are almost to the dirt.

Smith: Got in 4 runs after grooming. Headwall was full of sweet corn and the rest of the trail was very fast with some fun air over the humps... almost felt like skiercross. Polar Express had a problem around 5 which made them slow it down a bit, but it was still faster than Friday. Line was 2 minutes max in the single line and was about 10 chairs after 6:30.

Frannie's: They added a new kicker on the 2nd hit that has a longer gap than the existing one. Otherwise, pretty much the same. The track up to the 1st box is getting muddy and the snow ends a little bit under the edge of the box which was sending people for a loop.

Look Ma: Took one run as they weren't checking much for park passes (I would've bought one if they asked... guess I'll get one next time). I can't really remember the order, but it has one small jump, a few boxes, a few rails, 2 big jumps with 2 kickers each, a couple spines, a C-Box, and what I guess is supposed to be a quarter pipe, but it only goes up like 45 degrees and you can just ride right over it. Not amazing right now, but they'll fix it up as time goes along. Not bad considering it's the first week of January as it usually takes until the last week or even February before it's open. They also cut the half-pipe which is very narrow, so IDK how that'll work out. Minuteman line was a MESS tonight... many chairs going up empty, lifties yelling at each other... just a mess. Singles line was 2-3 minutes, but they need to get that under control.

I'll be back up Friday.
