Date(s) Skied: Tuesday Night 12/20/11

Resort or Ski Area: Wachusett, MA

Conditions: PP, mid 20s

Trip Report:

Got to the mountain around 8 and skied till closing. Once again, great conditions considering the weather. Hit everything that's open. Snowmaking top to bottom on 10th while I was there.

Conifer: Opened yesterday, edge to edge the entire trail. Still had that opening slickness, but pretty edgeable regardless, plus loose snow down the sides. Should be good to go through the rain storm.

Challenger: Conditions were AWESOME. Beautiful soft, loose snow down the sides and nice packed powder down the middle with an occasional slick spot. No snowmaking here since Saturday which is a bit concerning, base depths are a little low.

Ralph's: More slick due to the traffic (including all the park rats hitting a couple rails that were set up halfway down), and also some spots getting down to the dirt. Might be iffy after tomorrow.

Indian Summer: New lift is wonderful, some people think its overkill but with the ride being about 10 minutes less now, I think beginners won't mind staying over there longer and won't head to the rest of the mountain prematurely. Trail was in nice shape too.

Back up Thursday for some spring skiing.

I also skiied Wachusett last night. I got my first run around 7:15.

I went straight over to conifer for my first 5-8 runs. It was definitely slick on the steeper parts but if you were paying enough attention you could hit all the powder patches on your carves and the icy stuff on the turn transition. It wasn't worth staying on Conifer so I took a quick break.

I went to check out ralphs and challenger for the last hour. Challenger did have some nice powdery spots but the very bottom was quite icy.

As was mentioned, they were blasting snow on tenth mtn, top to bottom, all night.
They had some nice piles in there. I'm sure they'll be opening that for christmas eve. They will probably leave it in piles for the rain (I think it would take less damage all piled up) and open it up for Friday.

I also agree that Ralphs needs another coating from the guns or its gonna be in some tough shape for the weekend. Conifer needs some more attention before its enjoyable.
