Surprised to see them making snow so early. Anyone else taking advantage of the cold snap (other than the obvious ones like Killington and SR)?

Doesn't look like a test for Wachusett either... lighting up Indian Summer, Challenger, Ralph's, and Ollie's as we speak. Are they insane?

Jay Peak was at it on Sunday and still going strong! Looks like there is much optimism and consensus that the time is right!

Wow, that is a waste of time and money if indeed it isn't just a test. 40-65 degrees all week.

I think it has to do with the fact that snowmaking has at least become a little more economical thanks to more efficient guns. I love to see mountains like Smuggs and Wildcat who are notiously late starters, blowing snow.

With temps forecast to go well above freezing later this week, does it make sense to blow snow to build base for later in the month? Or are most places just testing their systems?

There must be a long term cold snap in the forecast because tons of mountains across the Northeast were posting snowmaking pics this morning

I think most northern New England, high elevation mountains are being wise here. The forecast looks fairly favorable for the next week. There will be a warmup (there always is this time of year), but not a blow torch.

As for Wachusett, I suspect it is a marketing move. It has us talking and their season pass pricing deadline is in a week. Makes sense to me.

Looks like only 2 days of warmish weather. Most overnights will be at or near marginal snow making temps.

Many are building a base and will not groom it out (whales) until later next week. Warmer temps for a couple of days and maybe one night at higher elevations! After that it looks promising! Need to get something down for Thanks Giving weekend.

They're testing the guns by blowing top-to-bottom on 3 runs? That's an expensive test...
