2 April...last day.

They closed this week to preserve what's left for one last weekend. I'm wondering if they closed this week due to lack of participation. Either way...it's coming to an end this weekend.

The plans beyond that are for the annual Earthday Cleanup, currently scheduled for 22 April...but dependent on how much snow is gone. I diodn't participate last yer...#2 son graduated from college that weekend. I'll be there this year.

Did you AZ'ers who did the cleanup last year ever use your free passes?

We went never used the passes. Actually I have no idea where they went.

I thought the clean up was later last year. I still plan of skiing in mid April. Hoping still for Mid May.

re: the passes...not sure how they "did" them this year. Sometimes they mail them out. Sometimes you calim them @ the Customer Service desk. Unless you were planning on going this weekend...not much point in pursuing. I have POCs for you in case you opt to pursue.

re: hoping for mid-may....you may get your wish. They have plenty of coverage and some decent protection (trees shading egdes of slopes etc). I'll keep you guys posted in case you are interested..

Bossman, sorry you didn't get to use your tix. And also sorry we didn't rendezvous this year. Maybe next year I'll find my way to Burke. Recent photos in the gallery by Buckeye have got me drooling.

..either that, or Sunapee....another season passes and I failed to get there...despite having 1/2 price tix with my Wa pass! I think the racing this year (practice days and leaving early on race night)...plus some minor family medical issues sucking up time kept me from taking too many day trips this season.

I was wondering what the crowds might be over there over the weekend. I've been there only 3 times, mid-week and night and the lines were fine and then once on a weekend and it was a zoo. Any ideas from prior experience?

Wow. Slightly unexpected. Don't they have a pond skimming contest that isn't until like May?

At any rate, I probably won't even go up for the last weekend this weekend. With news it will probably be mobbed, and I don't need to leave a bad Wachusett taste in my mouth. I'll still have a couple days at Tuck's in April.

I have not been to the pond skimming event @ Wa. Not sure how much of whatever crowd is there actually skis.

I suspect that if you want to ski...be there for first chair.

Saturday's weather looks bleak right now...but who believes long-range forecasts?!

I expect to go. I might be there for first chair Saturday AM for a few runs...otherwise, I'll be there for Sunday's BBQ and band.

Not rain, just a scattered shower first thing in the morning though. Mountain doesn't look so well right now though and temps up to 70 by Friday. It was 75 last year on closing day.

I hiked up Balance Rock/Old Indian to the summit yesterday and took a run down Conifer. Very nice conditions actually. It only got real thin at the very bottom, and I had to dodge some mud right before the Polar Express.

i'm thinking of skiing the AM on Sunday. could someone post a report about the conditions found on Saturday. Bear spots are fine as long as they are avoidable - just don't chew up my skis!

If I get up there Saturday...it will be for 1st chair...and they expect to run day/night sessions. So I might be able to report on Sat AM conditions, but what happens throughout the day will be a guess.

2002-2003: Opening Day: November 9, Closing Day: April 13, Closed 11/10-11/27, 4/7-4/11, Operating Days: 132
2003-2004: Opening Day: December 4, Closing Day: March 26, Operating Days: 116
2004-2005: Opening Day: December 5, Closing Day: April 10, Closed 4/2-4/9, Operating Days: 119
2005-2006: Opening Day: November 25, Closing Day: April 2, Closed 11/29-12/2, 3/27-3/31, Operating Days: 110

This year, despite opening and closing on the planned dates, is the worst in at least 5 years for Wachusett. I can't believe they're even open. I looked at the webcam and there is absolutely nothing at the base whatsoever. Even the snow report says 0-12" base.

I went to Wa yesterday to say goodbye to my home reosrt for the season...enjoy the food, a beer (yeah..right.."a" beer), and the band on the deck.

I didn't bring the boards, but Challenger looked to be in decent shape and quite firm. The run-out from conifer looked a bit slushy. The two trails on Manoadnock were all gone. I was surprised they had one of those open Saturday (per the ski report)...but there was nothing there by lunch yesterday (near he bottom of the lift anyway).

It was a great day to be at the home hill to enjoy one last outing and say goodbye to the mgt and staff folks. I saw a few ski-pals as well. Sorry I missed Dozer. We had another event to hit...and he had chores around the homestead...so we waved as we passed on the road.

I'll be up there for the Earthday Cleanup. I bet dollars to donuts they postpone the event until May to get let the slopes clear off a bit more. Not skiiable at this point...but not quite barren of snow either.

Thanks Wa!!
