I found this article on Snowjournal.com. It appeared in The Rutland (VT) Herald and answers the questions that we had regarding WM a few weeks ago:

1. Why are there no New England resorts? Because the movie producers are charging mountains $50k to be featured in the film for "production costs."

2. ASC paid a large sum of money to appear in five consecutive films, hence their large presence.

3. And last, but sad and true, Warren Miller only is the movie Narrator and nothing more since his son sold the company to TIME WARNER five years ago

Read the article here:  http://www.rutlandherald.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20041115/NEWS/411150302/1011/BUSINESS

The movie was very good, but there were some glaring "product placements" which were really annoying (eating Nature's Valley Granola Bars blatantly in front of the camera, driving brand new Jeeps, etc). Guess we are going to see more of that in the future. :-?

That's something that I probably really didn't want to know... :(

I thought the movie was pretty good too. The first half seemed better to me, maybe it was because I liked most of the music better. I think there was more obvious product placement in the second half too, which I found to be really annoying.

Compared to last years "Journey" and '01's "Cold Fusion," I'd say "Impact" was a bit off. Maybe its me, but I think there just seemed to be a lack of enthusiasm. Not enough boarding either.

For quite a while WM films have had as their theme the “Freedom” of skiing. That doesn’t seem to fit anymore. It’s disconcerting to watch the creeping commercialism that has occurred in the most recent films. We all know the realities of maintaining a viable industry, but there has got to be some restraint. It was much easier to relate to the earlier films. Scenes of everyday skiers having fun would be nice. As well of a few minuets of a resort or two that eastern skiers might have been to or at least heard about. Even an icon of the sport like Glen Plake has made the effort to tour eastern resorts. I can’t help but thing that a substantial portion of the lift tickets purchased in this country are for resorts east of the Mississippi.

while i can understand WM shying away from the east since powder is less reliable and backcountry options not as open and easy for filming crews and such, i don't understand how little use of resorts there is in the most recent film. the article highlights why as it's amazingly but not too surprisingly all about the money. the best part of impact was the resort skiing. i can't relate to people heli-skiing and skiing extremely remote 50 degree pitches.

impact was my first WM film and given the article and people's views who have been long time viewers, it's troubling to support the future of this franchise. my main reason for going was free lift tickets, so my conscious is okay so long as i don't spend a dime at K or SR. but this troubles me.

OK. I don't feel so bad about skipping the Warren Miller film this year.

I have a new favorite: Meathead films http://www.meatheadfilms.com/index.php All East Coast, all skiing.

I've seen some great clips from TGR, but I like the Low budget, Jackass feel to "Schooled".

Did you see the meathead movies or just the clips? I was thinking of ordering one, but I woild like to know about their quality.

I've scene "Schooled", which has some great shots an seqeuences. "Epoch" looks to be even better, but I don;t think it's been released yet. It's low budget and sophmoric, but that's half the fun.

i wouldn't have gone to see "impact" due the increased ticket prices and the fact that there are better ski movies out from other companies but i got to go with christopher davenport... that made the night pretty damn cool...

Which show did you attend? I met Chris Davenport at the Somerville Theatre and he signed a poster.

Warren Miller ticket prices too much?

See Warren Miller's Impact in Plattsburgh NY on Fri. Dec 3 at 7:00 for only $10!!!

Fundraiser for the local ski hil, Beartown
Only ski passes you'll get is a free evening of sking at our little hill - no Sugarbush, ASC or other big name, big price places.

Not alot of prizes - but hopefully alot of fun.
