When you were introduced to skiing did you like/love instantly or did it take a few tries?

My wife actually got us into skiing. There was a group night deal at West Mountain that she signed us up for and that was it. She was not as enamored/addicted as I, but there was no turning back.

My memory sucks, but I seem to recall being hooked immediately. That's not to say that every day out was "fun" but it's definitely something that I knew from the first day that it would be a part of the rest of my life.

Yep. For me, once out was all it took for me to be hooked.
I went on a day-trip with my one brother (who had been out skiing once or twice before) and his friend to Vernon Valley/Great Gorge. Both those guys have long since stopped skiing. Not me.

Lets just say the Attiude was there but the Skill were ANOTHER matter. I wentfrom being an Enthusuastic Beginner to a Disillusioned learner

But being a stubborn SOB at times who really did havea high desire to ski Alpine rather than just XC, i just kept at it till things started to click couple days into it and then ---WELL U Know the rest !!

No!

However, I'm like Warp Daddy:

It took more than a couple tries for me. But eventually it did clicked.

I'm still more fond of xc than alpine. Though in reality, I do a lot more alpine than xc due to lack of good xc venues nearby. As long as it's snow that can be slide on, I'm IN!

I was very frustrated at first, but determined. My parents put me in an after school program at Ward Hill in second grade because ever since I could walk, I LOVED playing in the snow. It was for six Tuesdays following Christmas. My cousin Kevin was a few years older than me and kind of like a brother to me and he skied, so I wanted to do what he did. By the end of the season I was hooked and got my parents to try it the next winter. The following year they finally 'got it', which lead to seasonal condo rentals at Okemo and eventually a little house in Ludlow by the time I was 12.

I'm pretty sure I loved it right away but it was so long ago that I can't remember for sure, I was around 8 years old. When I started skiing again, a couple of seasons ago, I remember thinking, after my first run in almost 2 decades how great it was and was instantly hooked again.

When I first skied in 1976... I remember digging it...
But it was too expensive for my family... So I had to forget about it...

Yes, I think so. My first run was as a kid using my mom's old equipment at the local sledding hill. I remember falling, it must have looked pretty spectacular because I remember wanting to try again but my parents made me wait until I could get lessons at Sundown..

One of my first memories was being a terrified little kid getting off the Peabody double at Cannon. Completely horrified on the top and hooked by the bottom. Probably the longest run of my life.

Nope. My parents put me in lessons when I was five, and I remember being absolutely petrified of taking the chair lift. Only time in my life I've been happy to see long lift lines.

By the following year, though, I loved it.

My first runs where at Big Vannila in NJ...hated the whole thing. All I remeber was poor fitting boots massive wipeouts and finaly calling it quits and having to climb up the mountain to the lodge, pulling my boots off and staring at bloody feet. Things...did get better...after a while though.

I used to watch it on tv when I was small and wanted to try it out really bad.. Even asked for those plastic skis that hooked onto your snowboots for the sledding hill. I finally got my chance a few years later and took 1 intro lesson with a group (one of those hour long things that tells you how to clip into them and do the pizza then sends you on your way) I couldn't get up the damn tow rope. Then tried the lift and fell in love. Unfortunately my family never had a lot of money so skiing was limited to once a year with the church group until years later. When my brother left for college, I had noone to ski with and just stopped for years... Then my weight skyrocketed (not due to lack of skiing of course) and I felt like I was too big to be doing it. I lost some weight and started a new job and they asked if I wanted to go on a ski outing. Heck yeah I said, and haven't stopped since...
Now it friggin 100 degrees outside and all I can think about is skiing!!

My first run was a long time ago in 67 or 68 at King Ridge which was a rope tow upside down ski hill in NH. I was on borrowed equipment from my uncle so it was lace up boots that were too big and really long Head skis maybe 215 or longer. At ten or eleven years old, I could barely turn those bad boys with no lessons and no body weight, but I could carry some speed. I don't remember the bindings ever releasing which is scarey to think about now. I burned out the plastic palms on my mittens on the rope tow, took out people behind me on the rope tow when I fell, was a menace to myself and others on the slopes. I really enjoyed skiing and because of the expense and distance to the mountains rarely skied.

it funny i dont remember the first time i was skiing. i was really young 4 or 5 but i have nothing but great memories. one of the fondest was comming down a trail at stratton with my dad and a few other people we know in the fog and everyone yelling for me to slow down.
i remember being asked to leave the advance group class a bromley because i was making the other kids look bad. from there on i just skied with the adults and that was at 7 or 8.

when i started snowboarding i got it on the first day. so i was like flies on shit.
