The literal translation of wedeln is "wiggling". It's just narrow radius linked turns. It's hard to imagine being able to ski trees or moguls without having that in your bag of tricks. Ski and boot technology has evolved so the technique is different. You're still turning down the same line with the same cadence.

Like others said - its very important for mogul skiers to be able to do wedel (they now call it short swing) on the flats. Iceman practices it all the time...

BTW - I wouldn't really call what I saw in that video a wedel...

that sounds about right...

I remember as a kid being jealous of people who could wedel. I was never able to master it that well...

When I was young, a long time ago, my father showed me how to wedel. But then my older brother taught me the " jet turn." I did have jet sticks after all. It took me years to get those bad habits to go away. In it's day, it was cool.
In a previous thread, somebody has a picture of a lange poster with a women doing a perfect jet turn. It is titled "keep your tips up."
Did anyone else have " Jet Sticks?"

That's how they ski bumps at Sundown....because the bumps are nearly as flat as a stratton groomer.
