What do you think of the Sox moves?

I like the martinez deal, not a fan of kotchman but i understand the reasoning.

However, with another p.o.s. outing by smoltz and penny's 5 inning hire wire act all year, i really really really think they should've thrown bard in and gotten Halladay. I heard that was the deal breaker.

The Sox need a bat more than anything. They got the best one available and as much as I like Masterson, I think any of the three 'B's' are more valuable. Holiday would've been killer, but I had my doubts from the start whether Toronto would trade him in division. Smoltz is done, Penny is still a decent 5, hopefully Wakefield comes back and finishes out at 4 and Buckholtz sacks up and becomes a solid number 3. So far he's looking pretty good. I still think that Becket and Lester are the best 1-2 in the AL and the sox have the best bullpen. Bard is the most unhittable pitcher in baseball as we speak.

Give starters as much rest as possible...($.01)

The Sox trading away pitching...to me, a baseball/Sox fan of the past, is a dicey move...fwiw...but will be redeemed highly if Martinez can add some hitting. I don't like to see starters pushed to go into the 8th inning. The middle reliever is golden imho. Don't know where Sox-TV-people get the idea that the middle-man isn't needed....wait till playoff time....arms of starters that've accumulated the innings get a little tired, and that's not the time to be tired.
