OK...silly question usually asked when "Jonezen".

...but what if this weather pattern came in Jan/Feb? Please don't mess up my fantasy with comments about winds off the water blowing moisture inland would result in rain.

True, it's still October...early October at that. Leaves still green on the trees, Lots of time left to get into ski-shape, get the gear ready, buy passes, etc.

I'd just like this pattern to swing back on by later in the season. *drool*

Erraahhhh...can someone add a "drool" emoticon?

If this whole thing were snow we would be talking alot more than 3 to 4 feet. From last Friday to this Sat, I would figure about 8"+ of rain - which would translate to 8' of nice fluffy pow pow, depending on density obviously.

All skiers think alike apparently because I was thinking the exact same thing.

I have been reading that there may be a major costal storm that stalls in the Gulf Of Maine or thereabouts and delivers 10-15" of rain to New England by saturday night, yikes

Hopefully the jet stream pattern changes after this weekend to allow colder weather to come down from Canada.

I was talking with Orville Slutsky last weekend...
He's one of the old guys that owns Hunter Mountain...
I asked him a question about something... He replied...
"I don't know - but I do know this rain is going to help the early snowmaking effort"...

Good call!
I definitely agree with that one. I think I would take the next 2 weeks off. There would be only one word for this much snow...EPIC

I don't get this. Why does the rain help?

We've had quite the drought here in the Hudson Valley...we were 8-10" behind where we need to be to keep reservoirs at normal levels. The recent rain cured that.

To make snow, you need water. We were quite short of water until now, and Hunter draws alot of its' snowmaking water from the NYC watershed. Without this rain, less snowmaking.

Get it?

Wait a minute- Hunter makes snow from the NYC watershed?

{insert Hunter/NYC/Dirty joke of your choice here. Probably something involving sucking up NY'rs in the pipe, only bath they get, maybe work in a comment on telemarkers and bathing, and a jab at boarders, just to see dmc's head asplode. I would, but it's been a long day, I have a headache, and can't come up with anything right now.}
