Are outdoor mask mandates pseudoscientifically stupid? Yes. Do resorts have the right to implement these mandates? Yes. Was the guy being an unreasonable dick about it? Yes.
I also heard someone saying it’s a government mandate and not the resort’s choice. If that’s the case, bring your problems to the government, not the wage-paid lift operators working for a company forced to abide by those rules. I feel bad for businesses (and employees) having to deal with irate customers angered about a rule they have no control over.

Amazing that most posters here are outraged because the dude didn't wear a mask, rather than the two Alterra employees who decided to manhandle him.

You're required to wear clothes in many places as well. Why is there no revolt about that?

Guess you didn't hang around Brattleboro much in the 2000s. Ahh the good ol' days.

Sorry, I never once understood why people make such a big deal about being required to wear a mask in some places. It really isn't that big of a deal. You're required to wear clothes in many places as well. Why is there no revolt about that?

Skiing isn't a "right". A particular ski resort/town/county/province/country requiring masks in certain places at resorts isn't infringing on your rights. End of story. Don't like the rules, go ski somewhere else. Making a big scene about it is just stupid. Just because you disagree with a rule doesn't mean you can ignore it with no consequences.

If you wear glasses then wearing a mask sucks, constantly fogging up....I hate it.....not that I would act like that guy but wearing a mask with glasses sucks.

Guy is a jerk. if i was waiting for that chairlift I would’ve strangled him. Poor baby has to put a mask on for 10 seconds.
I don’t like stopping at red lights either, but i do.

As someone that wears glasses (including while skiing), I fully get that issue. But that still wouldn't be a reason to ignore a rule and make a scene. I dealt with it last year skiing and survived. It sucked for sure, but it was only for a short time while in the lift line.

Agree they could have said were not running the lift until you mask up. Could have been handled differently. His attitude would have changed quickly with a crowd behind yelling.

Stupid feel good rule but I guess it’s like “No shirt no shoes no service.

Definitely a stupid rule. Having to wear a mask outside is stupid and nonsensical. Probably should have just cut off his pass for the next run and made the showdown Happen at guest services. I do see both sides of this though. You know the rules just wear the mask and keep on skiing. But at what point do you say this is insane and its time make a stand.
Does anybody actually think a mask outside on a chairlift with your family does anything to stop the spread of covid?

Does anybody actually think wearing a shirt in a store matters? No but it's the rule so you do it. If you don't like the rule then don't give them your money by skiing there. It's their ski resort and they get to make the rules. Skiing is not a constitutional right.

You don’t have to wear shirts outside. I’ll wear a mask inside if they require it. It’s a known fact that covid doesn’t spread outside. At some point all these stupid rules need to go away. If enough people start standing up for themselves, maybe it will happen. It’s time for life to go back to normal.

Most things are back to normal if you aren’t hung up on menial bs. I think alot if these rules are stupid too but no ones rights are being invaded by having to wear a mask. You’re also not some freedom fighter protecting everyones rights by “taking a stand” against masks, just a jackass. There’s plenty of truly horrible things going on in the world to worry about and masks on a chairlift aren’t one of them.

That's fine and well, but a business has every right to make their own rules. If you don't like them, go to a business where you do approve the rules.

Or take it up with management of the mountain. Don't be a child, have a meltdown with staff that didn't make that rule and then hold up the line for people willing to follow the rules.

That maybe is "taking a stand", but it's inconsiderate to others there who don't care as much about the rules to make a stink about them.

As I said before, shut off his pass and make him take it up with guest services on the next run. Don’t make a scene, it looks bad for both parties. I guess I just hate stupid rules that have no reasoning behind them. At what point is enough enough.

I agree 100%, but they make the rules at their mountain and if you want to ski their mountain you need to follow their rules. Even when we get back to "normal" there will be places that still will want you to wear a mask. You have 2 choices, wear a mask or go someplace else.
