Where would you retire to?

Here's a question that I believe hasn't been discussed here yet:

If you could retire (or go into semi-retirement) tomorrow, where would you go and why?

Anywhere? Not sure if I want to share 'cause then everyone will beat feet there.

One candidate....Zermatt, Switzerland. What a cool country and place!

I like the way you worded your response...

In any case, I think that there will be some range of responses, so I would not worry too much about the masses relocating somewhere because that's where you would go.

For the longest time I thought that the San Diego area would be the place for me to retire to...near perfect weather most of the year, close to both the water and the mountains, etc.

Now that I've started skiing, I'm not sure anymore, though....

Oh, I was not trying to be egotistical or anything...it's just that I've learned that sometimes it's best to keep your thoughts/plans secret so as to avoid others spoiling it...

I'd be mobile, I think. Mostly Europe, though.
I'll let you know for sure after the next presidential election.

Well, I haven't been to too many places yet, but we really liked Montana when we were there a few years ago. So that would be high on the list... :)

I'd like to be in ski country, maybe on a ridge somewhere in Vermont or New Hampshire with a clearing for a DirecTV setup. Also, the UPS man has to be able to reach me.

Hard to say, married, or solo. We both like the beach & like mountains but she would want to be closer to beach & occasionally see mountains, I'd do the other.

The joy of CT, close to everything, only occasionally do I do go to the beach here & hills here are not the same as view in F-Notch or Lake Placid)

The real answer, close enough to the kids to see them.

If it were today, it would either be VT or CO.

If it's in 15-20 years it will have to be someplace warm. The SC or GA coast would do.....

For me it would be the Carrabassett Valley in Maine, someplace with a easy commute to Sugarloaf.

I would like a place in Northen Maine for the Summer and Sunday River for the winter. I don't like it hot. I'll end up with 1 place in the Whites and still be happy. :D Already kind of looking for a house.

Yeah I am devoted to Sugarloaf, and I would like to retire somewhere in New England as it has always seemed like home to me even though I am from Long Island. I've skied in Europe and while it's nice, the snow is more reliable here in the U.S for the most part.

Living in Northern New England would not bother me as I like it cold (below zero is fine) and I love snow. Who know's with global warming, Maine may be alot warmer in 30 years time when I reach retirement age.

I am with Bob, I dislike hot weather, 2-3 months of nice warm comfortable weather is good enough for me, then bring back winter.
