I don't see what all the hulabaloo (love that word) is about over drive time. I drove 12 hours one way to ski mountains that didn't even have ski lifts. Granted it was for a week.

Take off eary Friday for Boston. Drive as far as Portland or somewhere 3-4 hours out of Boston Firday Night. Grab a motel room. Leave early and get a full day in on Saturday.

Re. Loaf on Pres. weekend - I skied there Pres. Day 2007. It was pretty crowded and my skis were stolen. Saddleback is a great option.

More or less the plan at present, absent the layover, since we want to stay at the Loaf, and it's tough to get just a Saturday night.

I do like the Saddleback option for a day, too.

Sugarloaf silver passholders are blacked out that weekend. Certainly a few will be at Saddleback.

Go to Sugarloaf. I would hate do that kind of driving after skiing The Wilmington Trail a couple of times. The 2800' of non-stop, rock n' roll vertical to the base leaves your legs sore and your mind tired.

If you've been wanting to ski sugarloaf for a long time, then you should do it under circumstance under which you have more control. If it's fantastic, you're not going to want to leave after 1.5/2 days. If it sucks, you're not going to want 1.5/2days be the measure of the mountain.
Since your complicated logistics limit what you're going to be able to get to that weekend, i suggest thinking about places that maximize your hill time on one of the most crowded weekends of the yr. that means looking for the out of the way mtns with lower traffic. driving a loooong way to miss crowds also means you're going to miss hill time, too.
