Because it is fun.. and we live here. Getting out in winter is so much better then watching tv. Sex is great hopefully you love the other person. Why complain about the east so much it an beautiful place to be. I love the Catskills and all of our hills. After rain and freeze up then wait a week and go to place that makes good snow and hopefully you enjoy like having sex with some who is over weight who cares prejudices?

Because it is da bomb! Everyday I am out there I feel free and nothing else in the world matters at that time! Skiing the east prepares you for skiing any where else! I will take out frozen slopes any day over not skiing at all. This where we live and this is where we play'. Gotta love it!

Tight trees, superior snowmaking and periods of janky snow. It builds character like nowhere else on earth because if you can rip a decent line down Devils Fiddle when the snows not quite right, you can ski just about anything IMO

I grew up taking school trips to the hill(s) in the east, and, since then, never missed a season. That's why

You guys are on the opposite end of the general public. I talk to people who casually ski and they talk about vermont as being "ice". I always argue with them that they average 200 inches of snow a year and there are plenty of pow days. Hell there are pow days to be had in ct. It's just the amount/frequency that is so different. And obviously no comparison in terrain between east and west.

I'm having the opposite argument here. lol

Because Alta isn't a 2 hour drive away.

As to why the cool stuff is filmed out West:
(1) It looks a hell of a lot better on film than skiing through tight trees. Doesn't mean it's harder. Tight trees with limited coverage are much harder than charging some steep empty chute. Hucking is almost a subset of skiing and it's hard to film hucks in the trees.
(2) If you're going to make skiing your life, I can't imagine why you'd be in the East. While the East can be great, the West is great far more often. Hence, most of the good guys live out there.

Because I'm stuck here.

Same here! I grew up on the East Coast and live here so here is where I ski, but in 2 years I'm planning to move out west. Not just for the skiing but it's been my dream to relocate for years. I love New England though. You can keep NJ! LOL!

I grew up learning to ski on ice, crud and hard pack and I do think it's made me a better skier. Of course I prefer tons of pow but I have fun on ice and man made so IMO that's an accomplishment. ;)

Would I love to ski western pow all the time? Of course! But I wouldn't trade my New England education in sliding on snow (and ice) for anything. It's absolutely true that if you can ski the east you can ski anywhere.

We get the same kinds of pow days as they do out west. The difference is, our mountains are between 300 and 1400 skiable acres, while out west a lot of places have thousands of acres. So to catch a pow day here, you have to be there the day of or right after the storm or it'll be all tracked out. Out west, at places like Vail, you can find fresh tracks sometimes weeks after a snow. Also the altitude helps keep the snow dry so it actually gets a little fluffy again when it warms up instead of just getting slushy.
