Have 3 nights booked at Sugarbush later this month. Arriving Sunday around noon and rather than deal with crowds on the slopes figured we would go cross country skiing that afternoon. Don't worry, we will be skiing mon-weds with the alpine boards and tele boards.

I know about the xc ski centers in the area, but I am more looking for trails in the woods around Sugarbush. I am into the seclusion of the woods rather than some set track xc ski center. Thanks in advance

There's some nice access to breadload wilderness up Stetson brook rd, just south of warren, on the right. You pull in and feel like you're in someone's driveway, but it's a town road, you can park at the plow pile and ski up into the Breadloaf stat forrest along beautiful stetson brook, past an old homestead. Tons of moose and other wildlife. Eventually you will enter the bread loaf. It's an out and back, but a very cool spot, a very mellow climb in, and a mellow descent out. There is never anybody there...Another really nice area is the granville gulf. If you continue past stetson brook rd south down 100 to granville, make a right, then another right onto the dirt rd (55) and go up to the plow pile, you can ski up into the gulf along the headwaters of the first branch of the white river....on the clark brook trail....one of my favorite places on the earth, and a great white water paddle in the spring. Or a little North of towin up in fayson you can ski in off the end of north fayston rd. along basin brook onto the flanks of camel hump. All these areas are very secluded and get you up into the fringes of some of the larger wilderness areas...

Thanks Guys

The info above is exactly what I am looking for. I just have always lived in an environment where XC skiing is available everywhere and I have an issue paying to go to a "ski center". I am sure they are good for training and racing, but not really for me, I would rather be out in the woods.
