Now here's an idea...

...One of history's most violent volcanic eruptions blasted the island of Sumbawa in the East Indies in 1815. The sulfurous gases and fiery ashes from Mount Tambora cast a pall over the entire world, causing the global cooling of 1816, known as the "year without a summer."

Hmmm, "Global Cooling". I like it. Tell me, can volcanos be induced?

82,000 people died from the eruption of Mount Tambora and it's immediate after effects, so it was a disaster of epic proportions. It was 100 times more powerfull than the Mount Saint Helens eruption of May 18th, 1980 and spewed 25 cubic miles of ash into the upper atmosphere.

The Spring of 1816 was unusually cold with large areas of snowcover persisting on the ground in Ontario and Quebec, this helped cool the air over New England for the June-August period.

On June 6th, 1816 20" snow depths were reported in the VALLEYS of central Vermont from a storm the previous day, skiing at Killington would have been good that June!!!!

Maybe we should get volcanoes on uninhabited islands to blow up every September. Maybe Vail and ASC can get cracking on that.

I was thinking the other day that perhaps the reason were having such a crappy winter is because we haven't had a major volcano eruption in a long time...not the flowy lava type, the big boom krakatoa type.

Funny you brought this up.

Did someone call for an explosives enthusiast?

OK Marc, you've got your marching orders. Start by going to ASC and the other biggies and ask them to pony up $1M+ to pay for the wings and beer you'll need. Then hire some volcano guys to find the most suitable target. Then you can charter a C140 loaded with a little dash of this, a little dash of that and your excess 4th of July goodies for a quick run. Then get more beer. Can you get that all done in a week?

That's a good plan, Billski, but I don't think it includes quite enough beer. If you're going to blow up volcanoes, there's got to be at least one "Hey ya'll, watch this!" moment, and that takes a lot of beer.

Jeff Foxworthy has a good one, "You know you're a redneck when... you're too drunk to fish!"

No, no, no, that only happens after a night at Tortilla Sam's.

I was talking about a plan like Billski's. He nailed it with the beer and wings.

I'd also request we involve some Victoria's Secret models for moral support.

And one of those "Bomb Squad - If you see me running, try to keep up" shirts.

We really need to do something drastic to change our Winters, because its been like 3 years since we've had about five feet of snow on the ground at one time. Its very frustuating when you get about a foot of sow, then it melts away in a week, then comes back, and disapears again. Volcanos might be the answer, either that or the next ice age!!!
