Your aunt just died and left you a million dollars. The only caveat is that in order to keep it, you have to spend it on a second home in ski county. Where do you buy and why?

Starter home in Stowe?

Slopeside at J?

Saddleback?

Sugarloaf?

The Bush?

From what I've read, that's typically the problem: any time you expand roadways, you get more traffic (just like having a bigger suitcase often leads to bringing more stuff). I think that's put something of a damper on overall enthusiasm for such projects, because nobody wants to spend millions of dollars just to have more traffic.

While this might be true, it doesn't matter. The population continues to grow, which means more cars on the road. You still need to either add more public transportation or increase road sizes to maintain the status quo. Otherwise traffic will just perpetually continue to get worse.

In 2005 they did that large expansion of rt 3 from 128 up to NH and added a third lane. $385 mil. My friends that live in Merto west said it was the best thing but now I think traffic has caught up.
It has. For a while it looked like we might lose MHT as a base for crews. BED was the next closest option but having to drive Rt3 on a weekday morning would have been hell. Glad it didn't come to be!
