24. Feb. 16, 2026 Saddleback

First Saddleback day of the year didn’t disappoint. Crowds were very low and never waited more than a handful of chairs at worst. Sun was shining all day and the snow was great! Ventured to all my usual spots and favorite trails. Must’ve lapped Casablanca 8 times in a row at one point. Simply put, just a perfect day.

Casablanca is the best. Looks like you had a great day there.

Happy to get even a few days in the past 2 1/2 weeks, been very busy. Conditions have been excellent in the Cats with more snow on the way this week. Heading to Belle again Sunday or Monday then 3 days at K next Wed-Fri. Got to ski with my middle son Peter this past Tuesday. We get to ski together about twice a season and we always have a blast and ski each other to exhaustion. I took some pride in pushing him a little in all the bumps and trees still open.

Kinda been missing out on a lot of the goods this winter. Did a week in Florida at the beginning of the month. Days off seem to always fall on a SNE storm day that aren't really worth trying to drive through when they're not hitting the north. My head hasn't really been in it either. Was gonna go to Magic Monday and pretty much just woke up and wasn't feeling it.

Time to get back on track this weekend. Was gonna do a Stowe trip but tough to find a cheaper room (Commodores sold out as are a couple of my other backup spots) so gonna stay in Newport Sunday and Monday night. Planning on checking out Tenney for a few hours on the way up Sunday (will give me time to watch the gold medal game and still get a few good hours in after), Jay on Monday and then Burke on Tuesday.

Have a couple more long weekends planned in March. Either will do Stowe with Bolton or Jay for both of them or if the Mt Washington valley is still in good shape, maybe one of them will end up being Black/Wildcat/Attitash.

Castle Mountain Alberta. They got 18” Monday Tuesday. It snowed late into Tuesday night. They didn’t open Wednesday bc of cold. Then it snowed another 3”. Thursday was one of my best days ever. Just wow
Might just be the best mountain on the Indy Pass. Glad you got the chance to go with amazing conditions! Was the new high speed quad area open? How did that new area compare to the red double terrain?

Amazing mountain. Middle of fucking nowhere. No lodging no food no gas no nothin. Day trip heaven.

New pod was open and was pretty awesome. I’m told it’s former cat ski terrain. It’s an open bowl at the top that feeds into nice glades. Long run out that used to be the cat road. You can go out pretty far. 1800 vert.

The new lift was acting up. Running on back up fuel and a bit jerky. It started at 12 and closed before 3. But it was perfect bc it staggered the opening of the pod and I was skiing untracked lines til late pm

Nice! Good to know that terrain is just as sick!

Yeah. It’s way the hell out there. But worth the drive. Workers there are extremely nice too. When we went there was an older woman (Marie, I think?) checking lift tickets and giving everyone hugs before getting on the lift, lol.

One report into your trip and you are already making my gf and I regret not going out there again this season!

Know anything about silver star? It’s an ikon bonus destination and is only 2 hours away. May pop there one day.

Today was day 5

Day 1 was Louise. I had a lingering migraine from the night before and kept it pretty light.

Day 2 was Louise storm skiing 8 inches Monday 2 pm - Tuesday 5 pm or so. Great skiiing. Basically worked the west bowl terrain all day, then hit the backside for an hour or two to close

Day 3 sunshine. I’ve tried several times but I think I just hate sunshine. I wanted to go right after the powder day to see it at its best/better but nope, still sucks. Most of the terrain is short and flat. The layout is awful. Long flat roads connecting things all over the place. Goats eye terrain is ok. The dive and the chair next to it are like too much. There’s no happy medium of challenging terrain. It’s either too much or not enough.

Day 4 was castle discussed above.

Day 5 today got to revelstoke around 10 am, just skied packed powder groomers off ripper for most of the day

It will snow starting Sunday. I ski thru Thursday and go home Friday. I’m back in banff Wednesday night so I’m skiing revelstoke til Tuesday or Wednesday.

Life is good!

Sunshine is pretty tho-

Haven’t been to Silver Star. Our trip out there generally is Banff mtns->KH->Revy-> Banff/Castle. Last year we planned to hit Panorama but they just didn’t get the snow and stayed the extra days at Revy instead.
We are in the same boat on Sunshine. Not a fan. I’d rather spend the Banff area days at Lake Louise.
