Hey everyone,
Glad to be new here. What type of music do you all listen to? I'm sure there are many different genres. I listen to Classical. It seems to de-stress my busy life. haha. I probably listen to Andrea Bocelli more than anything. I got my hands on his new cd from UMVD and found something i didnt expect, duets with Christina Aguilara and Stevie Wonder. I dont really listen to Christina but she was good in the song. What do you guys think? i dont know... check him out. AndreaBocelli.com

I listen to all kinds of stuff. Beatles, Dylan, Clapton, Black Sabbath, CCR, Deftones, Harry Chapin, Lennon, Nirvana, The Ramones, RHCP, Rolling Stones, just to name a few. Music is definitely a huge part of my life.

^What he said. My favorite band is Pink Floyd, but I like a lot of stuff from the 60s to current. I believe that 90% of the nu-metal that comes out these days is crap and that is why most rock radio stations (especially WAAF) are beginning to transition back to more classic rock and 90s rock. I maily listen to WAAF and the Pike for radio stations, but I'll go to WZLX, WROR, 102.1, 101.1, and WXLO a few times as well.

nice pics. except the disturbed and metallica  ;)

i am fairly ecletic. most people say they listen to pretty much everything but don't really mean it. take electronic music for example. all hail the foundations of electronic music, one of the few original american music genres, jazz. later branching off into funk/soul and the all mighty james brown! take a slice of funk and add a synthesizer and some german geeks and you have kraftwerk. import that back into the united states and sample it and you have africa bambatta. enter old school hip hop with electro influce, we are talking about the bboy generation. now we are talking! i am all about the broken beat with a side of funk! perfected on the modern dance floor (imo) by such producers as general midi, proper filthy naughty, chris carter, blim, freeland, and a host of others.

ummmmm, yea. i like dance music with broken beats of all generational designations. when i am not rocking out my 1's and 2's, i relax to 90s alt rock, tool, nine inch nails, and enjoy seeking out interesting indie rock acts of the modern era. having played trumpet a number of years, i am always down for jazz and funk from the non-electonic realm as well (tower of power any one?). i will even do folk. just not pop. please, anything except manufactured mad lib music by numbers. nothing like a little music to either relax or pump you up!

oh yea, classical ain't too bad either.

As an amateur musician I enjoy listening to truly talented artists... too many hacks make it big, today more than ever before but they've always been around.

Some of my favorite string pluckers:

Zep, Hendrix, Clapton, AIC, Soundgarden, Floyd, STP, Willy Porter, SRV, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Alvin Lee, Johnny Winter, BB King, Les Paul, Chet Atkins... I'm sure I'm missing some but there's a good start.

I also listen to Classical a bit now and then... but if you want to be specific I really only listen to Romantic period and newer. Never got into Mozart era stuff, Baroque just puts me right to sleep.

My fav. Romantic era composers are mostly pianists, quick run down:

Liszt, esp. his transcendental etudes, hungarian rhapsodies, piano concerti, and Paganini etudes

Chopin, esp. his waltzes, polonaises, piano concerti

Rachmaninov, etudes and of course his piano concerti, mostly 2 and 3, but 1 ain't bad either

Tchaichovski, the mad Russian, piano concerti mostly

Beethoven, about as early as I listen to, love his Sonatas, his Symphonies, his fifth in particular

Other composers I listen to here and there include Schumann, Schubert, Handel, Debussy... and there are others.

Either "The Funk Mafia" or "Rip Van Funk".. Only have had a couple of rehearsals...

i marc, i think that is the most serious and straight forward post you have made at AZ! i agree, too many hacks make it big. but in those cases, they make it big because of their image. most pop music is the result of a few producers that excel at crafting a pop tune, not because people are writing good music and performing well.

I'll listen to anything but rap or metal. In my CD changer right now are Great Big Sea, Carbon Leaf, Phish, Bruce Hornsby, and Bonaroo. Love the 80s music as well, Duran Duran & Howard Jones being my faves.

A very astute observation.

I left off Ben Folds from my list but I listen to him a lot too. I bring him up though, because of what you said Riv, he has a great sarcastic lyric regarding just what you said from his last most popular track, "Rockin' the Suburbs"

"Some producer with computers, fixes all my shtty tracks..."

Ok, the serious stuff is starting to get me down. I need to go back to being useless and pointless.

Amen brother. Too much nasty metal and rap out there these days, IMHO. Too aggressive, too violent for me. Life is better than that.

Hey - I love those guys!! Great Canadian/Celtic stuff! Their live version of "Excursion Around the Bay" cracks me up.

Dead/Stones/Who/Allmans/Clapton/Bowie

Blasters/Horton Heat/Commander Cody/Nick Lowe/rockabilly in general

Emmy Lou/Lucinda W/Alison Krauss/Bela Fleck/Sam Bush/bluegrass in general

Zappa/Miles/Coltrane/McCoy Tyner/Herbie Hancock/Stan Getz

Anything with a groove that's not metal.....

I was learning to play Led Zep's "The Rain Song" and teaching it to my son and his friends over the past month, but once I saw what I was doing to the ski areas I stopped.

Sorry guys.

We have now moved on to Led Zep's "Immigrant Song"

We come from the land of the ice and snow...
