2 that really stand out in my mind...

Funny: President's weekend, maybe 10 years ago it was in the 70's up at Smugg's. We had already planned our vacation, so we went anyway. There were only 2 trails open, and streams going across the trails all over. You got used to skimming across these streams. I came up on a large water area, and leaned back to keep the tips up like all the rest. Half way across my skis just stuck. Instant binding release and I went face first into the water/slush. Was wearing a sweatshit so it got soaked, and my entire body covered. Very cold.

Scarry: At Jimney at night with my freind. We were going down Whitetail, at a real high rate of speed. It was smooth, then all of a sudden it turned to moguls. Dindt see the switch to moguls so I hit them at a very high speed. Went flying, landed, launched again, eventully ended up sliding all out of control, and off into the woods. Took a tree face first. Cracked the lense on my brand new goggles, my dad had just bought me for Christmas. Many body bruises, and a very hurt ego.

What the hell, I got about 20 feet before I lost a ski in the ruts and that was all she wrote.

I thought that said nuts instead of ruts at first. That didn't paint a pretty picture...

A couple of years ago at Bretton Woods (of all places :???: ) I was coming down the main night skiing trail in preparation for my first NASTAR race run of the evening. It was the first race night of the year and there really wasn't very much snow on the sides of the trail. The man made snow was humped into almost a mini glacier down the middle of the trail. The mountain had received 5-6 inches of nice powder during the day. As I was trying to warm up for the race I was going about as fast as you can on that trail (guestimate 30 mph). Just as I was coming up tot he starting area I spied a line of fluffy powder along the side of the trail on the lower side of a small water bar. I decided I would hit the waterbar get a little air into the powder and do a speed check to slow myself down as I came into the start area. The plan was working perfectly. I hit the waterbar and popped into the air. The landing below looked nice and soft (little "pillows" of powder 8) ). I landed, and when to hit the speed check/powder spray. The next thing I know my skis are gone and the ground rusched up to meet my face faster than I could even think "oh s#@%" to myself. all of my forward momentum had been stopped and tranfered straight into sending my upper body straight to the ground. I smashed my face into the hardpack snow that was just underneath the so called "Fluffy Powder". I am so glad I was wearing a helmet as I am convinced I would have had a major concusion (I think I may have had a minor one but I never had it checked out). I sewar my eye was still ooen when it hit the inside lense of my goggles. I twisted my wrist pretty good as well. :evil:
As lay there, face down, I wondered "what the hell just happened?" I figured I had knocked out some teeth. I gave all of my teeth a once over with my tongue and everyone was still there and I didn't taste an blood
I got up and looked back to where my skis were and tryed to determine what had happened. As it turns out, under the fresh layer of super fluffy powder were small mounds of frozen mud and turf that had been dug out of the water bar and left on the slope :roll: :evil: . What had looked like a nice patch of powder puffs was now revealing itsefl to be a minefield of ski grabbers. As soon as I had gone into the speed check, the frozen mud balls caught my skis a brought them to an abrupt halt releasing both bindings. The skis were still right where they had released. :smash:
When I got up and went to the starting area I got a lot of oohs and ahhhs regarding the quality and severity of my faceplant. I didn't do so well racing that night as my balance was off for a while after the crash. :???:

Funniest has to be at Alta, my brother lived out there for about 20 years at the time and knew the mountain backwards and forwards. I was a midwestern boy who knew nothing from powder, but I wanted to ski it. He said that some of the best powder was under the chairlifts, so after a few runs down, I ski'd closer to the lifts checking out a line to ski, next time down, I found a nice line, about calf to thigh high powder, taking it nice and slow, having a ball in the powder Then all of a sudden my skis go straight down into a culvert and shoot me straight up.
I land head down, buried up to my waist in snow, only my legs showing. I dig myself out, shake the snow out of my face, look up and see all the folks on the lift applauding and laughing.My neck was hurt a little on the fall, my pride, much worse.

I did have a pretty bad fall on the same trip when my brother took me down a chute, I bounced the better way down a slope of about 200 yards. Not alot of fun. Knocked the wind out of me pretty good too. Oh yea, I also lost a ski for about 30 mins in powder, wasn't smart enough to buy powder straps. Always fun poking your pole around looking for your ski after you had a 'garage sale'

Just remembered what had to be the funniest....~97' or 98'...
A DemoDay @SundayRiver...kind of raw morning but began snowing ~1pm....turning it into a nice fresh snow afternoon. In addition, hardly anyone had arrived...giving anyone plenty of room to air it out whenever... Had some of Head's earliest WorldCup slaloms on..heading down Right Stuff. While still on the upper, steeper portion...saw a minute cornice on which to launch off from, however in taking it a little too diagonally...kind of slid back...into the old backseat;-)..landing on downhill ski/leg extended but without any inside ski contact..(in the air:-o )..producing the loudest, honking long-radius lefthand turn ever experienced....still on the single, downhill foot...carving this ~30mph turn and truely launching me up & into the trees....with a pretty close to...faceplant into the woods...
Will never forget that one....

Worst crash for me was last year at Bretton Woods, Came off of Upper Swoop heading back to the Rosebrook chair and was in a long sweeping turn and hit bump and came down on ice. Spun out and went into the woods, luckily had my helmet on but not so lucky with my leg.ended up breaking my fibula 6 inches up from my ankle....managed to crawl back up to the trail and realized I was screwd. People I was with wanted to call for the ski patrol but I flat out refused, clicked into my skis and slowly went down to the lodge.
Taking the boot off was by far the worst....gathered up all my crap and drove 2 hours home and my wife took me to the ER.
It really sucked ending the season like that, I think it snowed way more after my crash.
not looking to do a repeat this year, this sunday is my 1 year anniversary ! going to visit the site and say a hail mary and throw some snow over my right shoulder

coming up to a whale at blue pa i decided to air it out at a good rate of speed. my skis hit the "snow" and stuck like concrete. double eject into headslam then frontflip about 15 feet down the slope. my neck hurt for weeks. thank god for the chiro

I was skiing with my brother at Smuggs and I aired it out over a ledge blindly (big mistake). As I came up over the rock I realized my poor decision but it was too late at that point. It all happened so fast but somehow I ended up upside with my knee wedged in to a tree branch. Most of my body was touching the ground but with how tight it was and the angle, I couldn't pull myself out. It hurt really bad and I was screaming swears until my brother got my leg out. Thankfully it didn't end up causing any major injury but it was so embarassing

I was at Mohawk a few years ago. My friend and I were skiing in the trees fairly close together with my friend in front and me in back. Out of nowhere, a young girl cuts right in front of my friend and slows way down to a turtle's pace. My friend just barely stops a few feet in front of her. By now I'm trying to slow down all I can, but collision is inevitable. BOOM! We both fall down, and the little girl (maybe she's 5) skis away like nothing ever happened. I learned I need to stay further behind my tree partner that day.
