Children Learn to Ski at Camelback; Two Now Training for Sochi, Russia

TANNERSVILLE, PA - Tyler Carter, 18, of Topton, Pennsylvania has his eyes set on a Paralympic medal in 2014. He learned to ski at Camelback Mountain Resort 10 years ago and is attending Adaptive Camp this week as a chaperone and counselor to the younger campers.

Tyler was born with fibular hemimelia, a congenital condition that left him without a tibia bone in his right leg. As a result, the leg was amputated below the knee when he was one, leaving him with what he jokingly refers to as "my stump". When you see Tyler ski with his prosthetic, you would never know that he is a disabled skier.

"Tyler seems practically unfazed by his disability and he doesn't allow his prosthetic foot to get in the way. He is an amazing athlete and a true mentor to the younger kids that are attending camp this week. Tyler says his love of skiing is just one of many positives that have resulted from his condition," said Megan McHugh, Director of Public Relations at Camelback Mountain Resort. McHugh continued, "Adaptive Camp is one of my favorite weeks of the winter season because the kids fuel my inspiration."

The adaptive camp culminates on Saturday, February 11th with the Diana Golden Adaptive Race. The race is open to any adaptive skiers and riders that attended camp as well as adult adaptive skiers. The race beings at 10am on the Raceway trail.

SnowEast Magazine Readers' Survey voted Camelback Mountain Resort the favorite resort in Pennsylvania. There are 34 trails, ranging from beginners to double black diamonds with 100% of the trails open for night skiing. Camelback is continuing on the cutting edge by adding a 50' x 50' airbag that tops out at 12 feet tall....just like stunt persons use in Hollywood films. Guests of all abilities can ski and board downhill, hit a jump and try any trick seen at the X Games and land safely and softly!

Always true to its name and mission, Camelback Mountain Resort, ensures action, adventure and excitement 365 days a year.
