Date(s) Skied: December 9, 2010
Resort or Ski Area: Loveland, Colorado
Conditions: P--48 inch base
2010-2011 Report #: Day 6
Trip Report: Better late than never. My wife and I took a swing out west to see friends and to take advantage of the deep base depths. My first stop on the tour was Denver, Colorado and Loveland was the spot to be. I did some research and discovered that KPTT FM Denver was running a promo for $15 lift tickets on Thursday for their Party VIP members. So I signed up as their newest Party VIP, got my coupon, and headed up to the mountain.
Loveland is the closest major ski area to Denver (not counting Echo Mountain or Eldora). It offers some serious skiing on the Continental Divide (summit at 12,700 feet) high above I-70.
I drove our rental car--a Hyundai Accent--up from Denver to the base area. You could not miss Loveland as it is right at the Eisenhower Tunnel.
I got my $15 ticket, went to the rental office and got a pair of Nordica Enforcers per the shop tech's advice (I made a friend in the shop and he was very helpful) and headed to Lift # 1 to get to the Upper Mountain. The views toward Lift 9 and the Continental Divide were amazing:
I skied to the midstation of Lift 2 and headed up. It was a nice day, so I decided to head to the top. The view of the top of Lift 2:
Loveland has all fixed grip Yan and Poma lifts. Lift 9 runs to the Continental Divide, at 12,700 feet. Today the snow levels allowed for Patrol Bowl to be open.
My three runs down Patrol Bowl and Our Bowl were nice with some windswept powder:
After these runs I headed over to Lift # 4, a fast double which served up some more great above treeline runs that fell into some great snow in the trees. I did at least four or five runs before heading on to Lift # 8:
