Looking at the 5 day weather forecast, its looking like this weekend should be an awesome weekend to ski and ride. Low night temps all week are going to make for some great snowmaking conditions to open up a lot more trails. There should be no ice on the trails this next weekend.

Best part is most people are out Christmas shopping or home decorating the Christmas tree. The lift lines and trail density should be very low, which all makes for a weekend you don't want to miss. Get out their and ski and ride this weekend. :snow:

I'm a bit concerned that the pent-up demand could make for very busy slopes with limited trail options. What I really, really want is for more trails to open up. I may just ski midweek instead.

I think you have every right to be. Camelback was much more busy this past weekend then I expected. Tonight the guns of December should start a new offensive and that should help.

Not much consolation for someone coming from Mass., but I'm seeing lots of green on this guy: http://www.huntermtn.com/huntermtn/snow-report.aspx

I'm guessing they get close to 100% by the weekend, given how far they've already come and the cold weather forecast for the next three days.

Day's 1,2 and 3 on the way this weekend for me :)

1 and 2 for me!

Though I may do quite a bit of relaxing too. The last 2 weeks have been hellish, with work being super busy, my brother going through a rough time and needing a lot of support, and my own 3 law school finals...

some QT by the fire with a cold one might actually be as important as some QT on the slopes.

Doc, if you see a guy in red pants and a green coat with Ohio State buckeye stickers on his helmet, holler!

I have a 16 day weekend coming up, Sat before x-mass is not usually busy. Sunday River has its 50th birthday party this weekend so that may bring in a few more for the party.

Next week will be slow until late on the day of the 26th. Then the x-mass vacationers arrivie. Usuall the 27th is when the gang is around in full force.

You got it!

Trying to decide if I'm going to get the new pair of boots on tap for me this weekend and start the couple of days of break in/tweaking my 1st weekend out, or wait a weekend or two????

When do the NH schools (public) start their Christmas break - Wed?

I'm playing hooky on Monday and plan on hitting Ragged - hoping it is empty before the Christmas crush.

I don't know what you're all are getting excited about. The warm up that we're having, which will be followed a freeze, tells me that that the conditions will suck. Bulletproof and thin at best on natural trails and man made on all the rest - death cookies and ice underneath.
Yeah, I'm going to wax'em boards right now!!!

The cold temps this time of year means a lot of man made powder on new trails. If you do your research you can even find trails in the early morning that just opened for the first time with almost no tracks on freshly man made powder. :smash: Follow the snow guns. :fangun:

No, thank you very much, I'll sit this one out. Man made snow is a just barely adequate substitution for the real stuff. It just simply doesn't even come close, making for an overall poor experience. Given typical weekend traffic, it gets skied off really fast and transformes into ice in no time.
I am aware that when it's really cold and the mountain really wants to make good quality snow, they can, but it hardly ever happens.
Most snow making operations aim at the "base building" grade, which is just icy crap.

If you don't make the first chair - I hardly ever do, (as a day tripper) then you're in for a typical icy day on the slopes. Little joy in that. With lift tickets even at smaller places edging over $60, I'll opt for something a bit more fullfilling. I don't mind hiking up/down icy mountains, for instance.
I'll wait for nature to deliver.

Different perspectives I guess. Many resorts do use as much water as possible to build base and then add some fluff with more air on top. That is temp dependant.

As far as day tripping and paying for tickets, the conditions are good enough at some places to do that. Last weekend was a good weekend of skiing with the natural going on top of the man made base.
What you do not want to ski on... I have 20 days on ,all perspective. I have a place and a pass. Started Oct 16th.
