Did you say crowd? Nothing like that at Belleayre this year. Typically, you can ski right onto the lift. My longest waits this year were probabaly 3-5 minutes around lunchtime.

really was only Wanatuska top to bottom, little on lower Onteora,But with the budget for diesel cut and no real snow-making for awhile it was nice.

Their snowmaking effort has not been good this year. I understand why but it's catch 22. No one comes so you don't make snow. You don't make snow so the people that do come complain about crappy conditions (I think they've been OK but my wife complains about ice everytime - she's probably represents their average customer better).

There have been a couple of Saturdays that were slick in places because it had rained one or two days prior, then froze. That's a function of the weather, not snow making. By Sunday the groomers had made things sweet again. Imho, the mountain crew has done an admirable job given the limitations. They've put done a good base on the open trails, unlike other places that have stones peeking out of thin cover just so they can pump up the trail count.

So what is the trail of the day at Beautiful Air?

Yahoo?

Lift Line?

Is the classical music or sad violins blaring on Yahoo?

Upper yahoo and liftline have no snow and unless there is a major storm, what is open is all there will be till closing day
Plus If ORDA take over without pay concessions employees are looking at a total 50-60% pay cuts over last 2 yrs.
Sad violins playing everyday

Belleayre makes me sad this year.

Every other year I've skied Belleayre five or six times, each time with a carload of friends and family. It was our default day trip from NYC.

Obviously some of it is the weather but most of it is the saddening self-inflicted wounds.

I think their snow making buget was cut big time this year.

Belleayre Mountain Ski Center contributes $12.5M per year to local economy, SUNY New Paltz study concludes

That's a pretty huge non-skiing number, so color me skeptical.

I typically contribute only about $1.65 to the local economy (20oz diet mountain dew) when I ski Plattekill or Hunter, and I think I'm a fairly typical Catskills day-tripper.
