Lincoln, NH, March 19: Thanks to the efforts of Loon Mountain's snowmaking and grooming team and over two feet of snow falling so far in March, Loon Mountain celebrates spring skiing and riding with 98% of terrain open and fun, favorite spring events for everyone.
The 28th Governor Adams Cup Invitational is scheduled for March 24. This non-sanctioned citizen's race for skiers of all ages benefits the Governor's Cup Ski Scholarship to help local kids further their racing careers. Online registration is available at www.active.com (search Governor's Cup 2012). Boston's WFNX radio crew hosts an apres party in the Bunyan Room from 3-5 p.m. following the Race and the Bud Light Entertainment series continues with live music in the Bunyan Room with '6 Foot Sunday' beginning at 8:30 p.m.
Loon Mountain's popular annual Droppin' In Camp for women, presented by Oakley, is scheduled for March 24-25, 2012. The camp is designed for intermediate women skiers and riders, age 13 and up, who want to build their skills in the park and pipe, as well as on trails. Coaches include Oakley's pro riders and skiers, including Gretchen Bleiler, who will be at Loon for this year's camp. Formerly just for snowboarders, this is the second year that the camp will include skiing with coaching by pro skier, Kristi Leskinen.
On March 25, the Cardboard Box Race, a favorite spring family event will take place on lower Coolidge Street. Cash prizes will be given out for first, second, and third place in categories of Best Themed Favorite Trail, Best Crash, and Fastest Time. The Cardboard Box Race is a free event for the first 75 entries. Registration runs from 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the Governor's Lodge. The Cardboard Box Parade starts at 11:30 a.m., followed by the race at noon.
A favorite rite of spring, Loon Mountain's Annual Slush Pool Party, sponsored by Bud Light, takes place outside the Octagon Base Lodge on April 7. Registration takes place in the Bunyan Room from 9-10:30 a.m. and is free to the first 75 participants over 10 years old with a signed waiver. The event gets underway at noon.
A non-denominational Easter Sunrise Service will be celebrated at the top of the mountain beginning at 6:15 a.m. on Easter Sunday, April 8. The Gondola will load passengers from 5:30 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. with the last Gondola at 6 a.m. The Summit Cafe will provide refreshments after the service and participants will have the choice to ski down or download on the Gondola. A pancake breakfast will follow from 7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m. in the Octagon Lodge with the Easter Bunny and an Easter Egg Hunt on the Lower Bear Claw trail at 9:00 a.m.
Now a Loon Mountain tradition, the 4th annual Bud Light 80's Day is scheduled for April 14.
Live music by Fast Times and 80's festivities will be offered throughout the day. There will be an informal bumps contest at 1 p.m. and all are invited to come tackle the moguls with sequined suits and straight skis - or just watch the spectacle! OneOhEight Apparel will be producing the 80's t-shirts and more schwag will be handed out. Signature Session, an end of the season jib jam on the Shaping Shack Hubba features, is scheduled for April 15.
