As we all know, the weather oscillates, not just day to day, but longer duration periods of above and below normal weather. I have found that warm falls lead to good winters. In fact an old adage is "autumn trough (cold) telegraphs winter ridge (warm)". So the rather large trough with the Blizzard out west and the large ridge in the east may flip by winter. Certainly we all remember the famous Halloween blizzard that was followed by the worst winter since the '70's! Classic kiss of death. So as far as I am concerned it can stay warmer than normal until mid November, then flip to colder than normal in time for Thanksgiving. And of course keep that up for 4 months!

But the bottom line is that above normal warmth in early October is not something to get worried about......

I like the attitude HS...stoked and ready to go!

I get spooked by October snow I admit...it's like catching a nice fish on your first cast of the day. Alot of times that becomes your only fish of the day. But October cold can certainly be expected.

I'd like to get an October day in this season, but thinking realistically I'm looking at 11/10 or so.

Well said !!!!

Nothing below 40F overnight going out to Wed. the 17th. So nothing for this weekend. With a pattern shift we could be back in business next weekend, we'll see.

I have to disagree. When you can't control something, the only thing you can do is obsess and worry. To take those options away from someone is downright cruel.

However, I'm glad that you are able to enjoy a more level-headed approach.

Circle of concern - circle of influence - only where the two meet shall you worry.

I look at it this way. If I wanted predictability the weather, I'd move to Hawaii where basically the biggest variable year round is what will the wave height be and on what side of the island will they be breaking?

Each season in New England is GREAT. I've got tons of outdoor activities year round that I enjoy participating in so I try and appreciate each one and each day for what it is. If someone is stressing about something that isn't happening right now, chances are that they'll likely miss out on an opportunity that is currently presenting itself. Carpe Diem!

Just the other day, Accuweather put out a "This Day in Weather History" that on that day Hawaii set a record for it's hottest day ever. It was in the upper 90s.
