Results are much closer in Vermont. Shows that there are lots of quality resorts to choose from.

I think that's right. Vermont is the capital of Eastern skiing. Next poll will pit the top 3 resorts in each state against each other.

On other comment. Sadly, I haven't skied New Hampshire, although I plan to do so this year. I was surprised by the fact that Cannon defeated Wildcat so handily. Is Cannon clearly better than Wildcat? I always thought that they were more or less on par.

Both have great views and good skiing. But Cannon has the best terrain by far. Glades, Steepness and Slackcountry(not only Mittersill). Come on up and see why!!!

The Vermont results do not show what the losses are to the overall winner as do the others.

Yes, that's right. And I don't understand why the results don't show that. I do have access to the following matrix which shows how each vermont resort fared against each other. It's a little difficult to figure out at first, but once you do it has all the information you need and then some.

Will do. The plan was to ski New Hampshire last season, but I cancelled because of the lackluster season we had. So, if everything goes as planned I will definitely come on up this year. Looking forward. And thanks for the explanation as to why Cannon beats Wildcat. Didn't know that Cannon's terrain is considerably better than Wildcat's.

Yes.

Dartmouth is really low because not many have skied it. I think I had the Skiway as 5th or 6th for NH. Middlebury is also really low in VT probably because not many have skied it. I probably had Midd around 10th or so for VT.

Interesting. Any other surprises for you? How about areas that were ranked too high?

I'm a Killington fan, so I was surprised that it ranked 7th in VT, but I didn't find it surprising given the preferences of AZoners. It also goes to show how deep the Vermont ski pool is. Any of the top 7 at least would have probably made the top 3 in any other state.

I may have inadvertently skewed your Maine results.

I posted the polls on our Facebook wall and Sugarloaf had shared it; so I bet you got several Sugarloaf votes from people following them that might not necessarily be AZ members. Although I would have bet SL might have won anyway, but perhaps not by that margin!

No big surprises. Surprised Jay got number one. The top five in VT are very difficult to rank. For myself, I could prefer any one of the top five (except Sugarbush) on any given day depending on a number of factors. Overall though, I don't think Jay is the best overall area in VT (though it certainly is up there as one of my favorites) so that surprised me.

That was a another minor surprise, I figured Sunday River would beat out Saddleback and maybe even the Loaf. There are a lot of SR pass holders on the board. The board also has a ton of Loaf lovers though. Maybe I just never hit the place right, but I think it looks more impressive visually than it skis. Just something I don't 'get' about the Loaf. But that says more about my preferences than it does about the Loaf, certain is deserving of a number one slot.

That's funny! Cool that sugarloaf shared it. But - as you point out - I don't think Sugarloaf would've lost anyway. So, it's all good. I was surprised by Saddleback beating Sunday River. Although - again - given the makeup of AZoner's, I should probably not be surprised.

I'm surprised MRG is #4. I expected possibly #2, with the lowest being #3 due to all the hype on this board. I think the only thing it's got going against it is that there are such long wait times on big pow days

Absolutely.

Terrain is better. But lift situation is better beyond comparison. In the words of Jules Winnfield: "ain't the same f****n' ballpark, it ain't the same league, it ain't even the same f****n' sport."

I was somewhat surprised that Stowe lost the number one spot to Jay but it was only by two votes. I'm not at all shocked that the Middlebury ski bowl scored so low but as Riv stated, its likely that not a lot of folks have skied there which hurt it a bit.

Middlebury doesn't have a bar & doesn't serve beer/liquor. That's why it ranked so low.

They do however have a library in the base lodge which is something no other ski area has to my knowledge.

I speculate it's only because this is a board of mostly expert skiers, who are heavily weighting tree skiing disproportionately to other ski factors in their decision-making process. That would lead to a "Jay bias" in the poll.
