The former World Snowboarding Champion, World Champion Skateboarder and founder of Sims Snowboards and Sims Skateboards, "Sims is frequently credited with inventing the first modern snowboard. He built his 'Skiboard' prototype in wood shop class in seventh grade in 1963, and followed with several skateboard and snowboard industry firsts, including the first snowboard with metal edges, the first pro-model and women's-specific snowboard. He was also the first to incorporate some of the earliest high-back binding systems. ***"

"Without Tom Sims it is arguable that these sports that so many of us live and breathe wouldn't have been possible," says Pat Bridges, editor of Snowboarder magazine. "More than simply a pioneer or visionary, he was a new age ambassador of a lifestyle rooted in skate, surf, and snow."

Tom's company provided me with many a joyful day schussing slopes far and wide, groomed and au natural. He was a major contributor to snowboarding and will be missed.

RIP TS
