I was cleaning out old documents from my computer and found this. I like it, but I can't remember where I copied it from. I hope it wasn't from Alpinezone and you have all already read it. Anyway, enjoy.

The Ultimate RunBy Romy Banning

From the land of white,
Came a thundering night.
And, with it came winter and snow.
The morning sun Revealed the ultimate run,
Where only the best dare go.

A cornice in the sky,
It started way up high,
Above the clouds and the stratosphere.
It sliced through boulders
he size of God's shoulders,
And down through narrow chutes of fear.

It is only up there
In the thin, thin air
That man is separated from boy.
And coming to ride This steep mountainside,
Was a long lanky kid named Roy.

It was beyond steep,
But the powder was deep,
And for the bold it looked like fun.
From out of the crowd This skier stood proud,
And said, “I'm ready, for the ultimate run.”

He stepped from the shadows
and laid down the facts.
“Stand aside, and let me ride,
And watch with wonder as I blaze these tracks.
” With a giant stride
Filled with purpose and pride,
He trekked up into the glaring sun.
And fast as a blink
And quicker than you'd think
He stood atop the ultimate run.

From high atop That ultimate drop
Roy found another head.
Sitting in repose With ice on his nose,
The old man looked like he was dead.
But slowly he stood, Grabbed his wood
And said, "Have you ever seen anything like this?" And in a voice soft and clear Roy said,
“Stand aside and watch me ride.”
Then the wind was all Roy could hear.
The man had no goggles or poles,
No gloves, and a frozen nose.
Just a pair of old funky skis.
But to Roy’s surprise,
The old man closed his eyes,
Slipped gently over the edge, and said, “follow me.”

Man! He laid down a line,
Across a fierce spine
And Roy thought he was done.
But he gave it a try
And he started to fly
As he carved that ultimate run.
It was all he could do To stay with that guru,
Roy thought his thighs would bleed.
It was a hell of a ride
As they flew side by side
And continued to gather speed.
When the drama unfolds and the story is told,
It’ll be a fable of extremes.
But for the youth And the one long in tooth,
It will be remembered as the greatest of dreams.

At the end of the ride,
They looked up high
where the mountain touched the sky.
And the old man said,
“Celebrate Roy, For that ultimate joy Now you’re a man and no longer a boy.”
“And, look up son, Look what you’ve done, And celebrate the mountain, Roy...
for that was the ULTIMATE RUN!”
