PORTLAND, Ore., May 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Spring 2012 marks the 55th anniversary of the U.S. Outdoor Store, Oregon's premier Ski and Snowboard shop. The same Portland family has owned the business since its inception, with Rob Solomon, the fourth generation currently at the helm.

Entering U.S. Outdoor you immediately see what has made this a northwest staple for all these years. Rows upon rows of the best name brands in outdoor clothing from floor to ceiling. The North Face, Patagonia, Marmot, Mountain Hardwear, Arcteryx, Spyder, and much much more. It becomes very clear as soon as you walk in, if what you're looking for isn't here, you're probably not going to find it anywhere. And you haven't even made it to the Ski, Snowboard, Camping, and other departments yet. You better call your next appointment and tell them you're going to be a little late.

In 1957, U.S. Outdoor set up shop in their original location at SW Burnside at Broadway. As they added more lines and services, they eventually outgrew the space. In 1987, they moved to their current building, just one block south on Broadway. At first the new store occupied just the first floor and basement levels of the building. Mr. Solomon remembers thinking that this was maybe too much space! Oh so wrong. By 1990, the Solomon family took over and purchased the entire building, giving them 25,000 sq. ft. Then in 1995, the store expanded again by blasting through the wall of its neighboring building (garnering another 10,000 square feet of retail space), now known as the clearance annex.

In 1997 U.S. Outdoor was one of the very first in their industry to go online establishing www.usoutdoor.com. Being located in a state that has no sales tax, they can offer this added savings plus they ship for free (in the lower contiguous 48 states) to service their out of town customers.

U.S. Outdoor's unbeatable selection of high-end ski, snowboard, camping, lifestyle, and surf gear combined with a staff that lives the life they sell, ensures that this store will be around as the "go to" place for all your needs for another 55 years at least. Find them online at USOUTDOOR.com or the retail store can be found at 219 SW Broadway, Portland Oregon 97205.
