Most Natural Snowfall for Opening Weekend in a Decade
WILMINGTON, N.Y. - Whiteface is ready to open for its 54th skiing and riding season on Friday, Nov. 25, at 8:30 a.m. Crews began blowing snow on the Olympic mountain Wednesday night, Nov. 16. Snow guns have been covering Upper Valley, Lower Valley and Fox preparing for opening day.
Opening day lift tickets lift tickets on Friday are $38 for adults/teens/seniors and $24 for juniors (7-12). These prices will be in effect throughout the weekend.
"Crews have done a great job in putting down snow with marginal temperatures," said mountain manager Bruce McCulley. "Most of our snowmaking has occurred at night, when it's much colder. We've built some great coverage on Upper Valley and Lower Valley and we're up and ready for opening day."
Mother Nature also helped out Tuesday night and Wednesday, delivering more than 14-inches of natural snowfall on the Olympic mountain. That means that Upper Valley, Lower Valley and the Fox trails will be open Friday, all serviced by the Face Lift chair. Crews are continuing to blow snow on upper Excelsior and the trail will open conditions permitting.
Nursery and children's programs are available and will operate from the Kids Kampus Base Lodge. Snowsport School lessons will also be available for skiers and riders intermediate level and above. Last season Whiteface was open for 138 days and skiers and riders enjoyed 247 inches of natural snowfall. Weather experts are predicting another snowy season this winter and most are even calling for another La Nina, with potential record snowfall, marking just the second time in the past 65 seasons that there have been back-to-back La Ninas.
Skiers and riders will be able to save the throughout season with programs including Super Sundays presented by Bud Light, Coca-Cola "Why Not Wednesdays" and the vertical Club .
The five Super Sundays are scheduled for Dec. 11; Jan. 1; Feb. 5; March 11 and April 1. During those five selected Sundays, tickets prices to ski and ride Whiteface's 3,430 feet of vertical will be $35 for adults 20 years and older, $30 for teens and just $25 for juniors. The themes include Historic Sunday (Dec. 11), Island Madness (Jan. 1), Super Football Sunday (Feb. 5), Shamrock Sunday (March 11) and Retro Sunday (April 1).
Every non-holiday Wednesday is a Coca-Cola "Why Not Wednesday" at the Olympic mountain. A one-day lift ticket is just $38 when a skier or rider brings a Coca-Cola product.
The Vertical Club allows skiers and riders the opportunity to save every time they visit Whiteface. The Empire Card makes your first day and sixth day at Whiteface free, with $15 off all visits in between. The Vertical Card must be redeemed at Whiteface, and visits contributing to the sixth day free must all be spent at Whiteface.
Plus Whiteface has added a snow guarantee . If the mountain's conditions are not to the skier or rider's satisfaction, they have up to one hour from the time they purchased their ticket to request a voucher for another day of skiing and riding.
For the 19th consecutive year, Whiteface/Lake Placid , N.Y. has been selected as the top destination for Off Hill Activities by readers of SKI Magazine. The 22nd annual survey also tabbed Whiteface Mountain, in Wilmington, N.Y., as the fourth top ski resort in the eastern United States. The rankings were announced in the magazine's October special issue.
Whiteface , Wilmington and Lake Placid also received high marks from the magazine's readers for its scenery (#2), resort dining (#3), apres ski (#3), mountain character (#4), family programs (#7), challenging terrain (#7), overall terrain (#9), overall satisfaction (#9) and lodging (#10).
